Julienne Cordy - Counselling Therapist

Julienne Cordy - Counselling Therapist Welcome! My name is Julienne but you can call me Julie! I believe our well-being can be boiled down to either Surviving (crisis mode) or Thriving (calm mode).

As a Counselling Therapist, I’ve created this page as a way to express my perspective of mental health healing and spread knowledge/tools to help others in their own healing journey. I’m a registered Counselling Therapist (Candidate) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists and currently practicing (and accepting new clients) at Thrive Counselling and Consulting, 295 George Street in

Sydney. I’ve created this page as a way to express my perspective of mental health healing and spread knowledge/tools to help others in their own healing journey. Many of us are operating on survival mode which limits the choices in behaviour/thinking patterns that are available to us and that help us make positive changes in our life. Survival mode can be a result of attachment injuries during early childhood with parents/caregivers/peers, or an extremely traumatic incident like a robbery or car accident. For some, it is generations upon generations of poor societal treatment and environmental conditions such as those experienced by Canada’s Indigenous people. Tackling these issues can be done by uncovering the driving forces behind these operating states and working with them to create new experiences and meaning that lead to a more fulfilling existence.

You can love and appreciate someone while also protecting yourself. Loving someone doesn't mean letting them do whatever they want; especially if it hurts you.

“With the right person it will always be easy”

“Be with someone who makes life a fairytale”

“I promise to make you happy...forever”

The romanticized version of love has us believing that love will always feel good. Which just isn’t true. I think it’s also important to understand that even in safe relationships there will be conflict, defensiveness, disagreement, and hurt feelings.

Authentic love is an action. It involves meeting vulnerable, fragile, wounded parts of yourself and another person. It takes conscious work and conscious commitment. It also takes self compassion and lots of forgiveness.

We all flawed humans doing the best we can, learning as we go
