When I found out I switched immediately.

Now we use great smelling products and still maintain a germ/bacteria free home! Except the good guys ;)

All winter long, we supplemented with vitamin d, vitamin c and zinc.

We drank plenty of water, and got proper sleep.

All winter long I was sick for 3 days.
My kids were sick for 4 days.

I watched families battle colds and flus, but managed to stay heathy.

WHY??

Because I took care of my body. I knew that vitamin d levels would be low from the shorter days, vitamin c would be minimal due to lack of fresh fruits and vegetables that are packed with them. And the zinc to support my immune system.

I planned ahead. I didn’t wait until we got sick to take care of my system. I do it daily!

As the season changes, my supplements change.

Vitamins and minerals are a key component to think about when you are eating your whole meals. I am sure you have heard it your whole life. “Eat your vegetables, so you can grow big and strong!” While there is a lot of truth to that to this day, you probably still aren’t getting enough.
For some, we turn to supplementing.
Supplementing is fantastic, but isn’t a cure to any health issues you may be suffering from. Supplementing is a tool to help in the journey of healing, and can be done incorrectly.

FIrst off, talk to your Dr, or naturopath about your use, and how your vitamin consumption may be affected by any drugs you are taking.

Once you know what you should and should not take, consider what it is that you want to improve and work from there.

Here is a basic list of what certain vitamins can do in your body.

Just like the food you eat, it is just important to keep an eye at what you are applying to your skin.
Which IS the largest organ you have.

Your skin will absorb more than the lotions you apply. When is the last time you had a look at the ingredients in your face cream, or your sunscreen.
How about that great smelling lotion you apply numerous times a day.

There are many things to avoid when you are choosing your skin care options:

*Parabens - found in your lotions; it is an endocrine disruptor.
*Sodium Laureth Sulfate - Found in bubble bath, soap and shampoo; It is an eye and skin irritant. As well as an environmental toxin
* Phthalates - Found in nail polish, bath salts, lotions; Endocrine disruptor as well as developmental and reproductive toxicity.
*BHA (Butylated hydroxyl anisol) Found in moisturizers, make-up; this one is linked to causing cancer, toxicity and bioaccumulation toxicity.
*Fragrance - Found in all products that smell in. These are chemically made smells, and very rarely good for you; major causes for allergies, headaches, eye and nose irritants, can cause forgetfulness, loss of coordination and other respiratory and/or neurotoxic symptoms.

Educate yourself on what additives are in the prepackaged and the "seemingly healthy" foods you consume.

Did you know....

That the average human houses trillions of microorganisms all over their body. Most of which in their gut.

These little guys aren't scary, in fact the are helpful. They help your body break down foods, absorb nutrients, make vitamins and also break down toxins.

did you also know that the average North Americans diet actually harms the production and life of these time micro-organisms?

Food production has moved from home grown to factory made, so a lot of our foods are missing key components that keep our gut biome fed properly, and the micro-organisms begin to die off.

Without their help with digestion we are seeing an increase in obesity, gut problems, like IBS and worse, and many other dis-eases are becoming more and more common.

Your mental health is also at risk.

There is a gut brain axis that controls mood, nutritional absorption and hormone releases to keep it simple.

If your gut is out of whack, so is your brain.

Welcome to Back to Basics.
