Saturday Morning: The Great April Thaw 🌷➡️🌱

If you’re looking for the last of the winter snow, it’s officially rebranded itself as The Great Mud Migration of 2026.

The white stuff and ice are making their final exit, and we’ve got our two top scientists on the case. Tulsa and Peanut are taking their jobs as "Head Hydrologists" very seriously this morning, standing side-by-side to monitor every steady trickle of meltwater carving its path toward the creek.

It’s peaceful to watch (and a very welcome sign that winter is finally losing its grip!), but we all know the April reality: Mud. Absolutely. Everywhere. 🐾💦

Enjoy the sunshine and the sound of running water today—just maybe keep a stack of towels by the door if you have pets. You’re definitely going to need ‘em for those paws!

Feel Good Friday: Snow Days & Snuggles ❄️🧡

Is there anything better than a post-snowfall cuddle session?

For this , we’re sharing this sweet moment of "Miss A" hanging out with the lovely Caramel. After the chaos of the last big snow, these two found the perfect spot to just chill and enjoy the quiet.

It’s moments like these—the calm after the storm—that remind us why our volunteers are the absolute heart of everything we do. Caramel clearly agrees!

Throwback Thursday: A Girl and Her Legend 🦄✨
Some horses are just once-in-a-lifetime. For Carrie, that was Peppy.

Not only did he live to the incredible age of 30, but he was the ultimate partner-in-crime. From quiet trail rides to high-speed turns, she could do absolutely anything with him. Case in point: Carrie ran her very first barrel pattern on him when she was only 3 years old!

He was steady, patient, and clearly a fan of 90s style... because we have to talk about that epic old-school mullet. 💇‍♂️

Rest easy, Peppy. You were one of the greats.

✨ Did You Know? A Horse’s Most Sensitive Tool ✨

We often think of horses for their power and strength, but they have a side that is incredibly delicate and precise.

Did you know? 🐴🎯
A horse's lips are as sensitive as human fingertips! Because horses can’t see what’s directly under their nose (they have a small blind spot there!), they rely on their highly tactile lips to "see" and feel the world around them.

🥕 More Than Just for Eating
This incredible sensitivity allows them to:

Sort through hay: They can pick out a single tiny w**d or a favorite blade of grass with surgical precision.

Identify objects: They use their lips to explore textures, shapes, and even the buttons on your jacket!

Communicate: Gentle nuzzles are a key part of how they bond with their herd and with us.

🧠 A Mindful Connection
At Transitions Acres, we always remind our participants to be mindful of this sensitivity. When you offer a treat or a gentle scratch, remember that they are feeling every tiny detail!

Have you ever felt a horse "investigate" your hand with their velvet-soft nose? It’s one of the best feelings in the world! 👇

🐴 Meet the Team: Carrie! 🐴

Today, we are so honored to introduce you to a woman whose life has been lived in the saddle with passion, resilience, and a whole lot of heart—Carrie! ✨

Carrie’s journey with horses didn’t just start recently; it’s been her life’s rhythm since she was a toddler. Believe it or not, at just 3 years old, Carrie was already racing barrels! 🌪️🐎 Her teenage years were a whirlwind of speed, adrenaline, and cherished moments with her family’s horses.

✨ A Lifelong Saving Grace
Through the inevitable ups and downs of life, Carrie found that horses were her saving grace. They offered her a unique kind of love and comfort that shaped her into the person she is today.

What Carrie believes about the herd:

✨ Profound Connection: Horses have an uncanny ability to connect with us on a deep level.
✨ Wise & Cheeky: They are our greatest teachers (and sometimes our funniest friends!).
✨ Emotional Release: They provide the best shoulder to lean on, guiding us toward peace and joy.

🗺️ A New Horizon
Carrie is planning on taking her show out West later this year! 🏔️ While we are already feeling a bit sad that she won’t physically be here at the farm every day, we are so incredibly excited for her next adventure.

No matter where the trail leads her, she will always be a vital part of the Transitions Team. Once you’re part of this herd, you’re family for life!

❤️ A Life Filled with Love
When she isn’t at the barn, Carrie’s world is just as full! She has been married to her amazing husband for 22 years and is blessed with three beautiful (and not-so-little!) kids. With a house full of fur babies and a heart full of gratitude, she brings a beautiful perspective to everything we do.

Next time you see Carrie at the farm, be sure to wish her well on her upcoming journey! We are so lucky to have her wisdom and warmth while she's here. 👇

Another Tuesday, Another Rory Special 👅✨

Taking it back to the fall with a "healing" Tongue Out Tuesday !

This extreme close-up of Rory says it all. Even when she was dealing with her injury, she didn't lose her sense of humor (or her ability to let that giant tongue fly). It’s hard to stay worried when a face this goofy is looking back at you!

We’re glad those "ruff" days are behind her, but we’ll keep the hilarious photos forever.

✨ Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders! ✨

There is nothing quite like the energy of a Leadership Camp at Transitions Acres! We were so happy to see these young leaders grow alongside our horses, and this testimonial truly warmed our hearts:

"100% would recommend. Such an incredible program, amazing teachers and positive environment. Thanks for hosting a great leadership camp, we can’t wait to do it again in August!"

🛡️ Building Leadership Through the Herd
Our leadership camps go beyond the basics. By working with our equine partners, participants learn:

Authenticity: Horses respond to who you really are, encouraging genuine leadership.

Problem Solving: Navigating obstacles with a 1,000lb partner requires creative thinking!

Confidence: Stepping into the arena and finding your voice in a supportive, positive environment.

🗓️ Looking Ahead to August!
If you missed our spring sessions, don't worry—the journey continues! We are already counting down the days until our August Leadership Camp.

Spaces are limited, and our camps tend to fill up fast! If you want your child or teen to build skills that will last a lifetime, now is the time to get on the list.
