This week at Foundry!

When we get overwhelmed, our bodies can go into “panic mode.” Your heart might race, your breathing might speed up, and you might feel tense or shaky. A helpful way to calm these feelings is a technique called box breathing. Box breathing helps your body move from a stressed state to a calmer one by slowing your heart rate and helping you feel more grounded.
How to Do Box Breathing:
1. Breathe in for 4 seconds
2. Hold for 4 seconds
3. Breathe out for 4 seconds
4. Pause for 4 seconds
Repeat this pattern for a few minutes. The more you practice, the easier it becomes to use when you're feeling overwhelmed.

Transformation & Empowerment.
Youth are powerful agents of cultural empowerment and transformation. By embracing their roots and expressing their identities with confidence, they spark change in themselves and their communities. When supported and encouraged, young people turn cultural pride into purpose, leadership, and a brighter future for all. Foundry supports youth in connecting with their cultural identity—every step of the way.

Time Change Self-Care Tips.
The transition into or out of daylight-savings time can affect sleep, mood, and overall well-being. Small adjustments to your routine can make the shift feel more manageable. Here are five gentle strategies to support your mind and body during this period:
1. Spend time outside. Setting time aside to get natural light can help improve sleep, boost mood, and relax the mind. Even a short walk can make a difference.
2. Maintain a consistent sleep schedule. Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day strengthens your body’s circadian rhythm and helps maintain steady energy levels.
3. Create a calming evening routine. Incorporate relaxing activities such as reading, stretching, journaling, or taking a warm shower to help your body prepare for rest.
4. Limit screen time before bed. Reducing blue light exposure in the evening supports melatonin production and can help you fall asleep more easily.
5. Gradually adjust your routine. Shifting your bedtime and wake-up time by 10-15 minutes over several days can ease the transition and reduce feelings of fatigue.
If you’re finding this transition especially challenging or feel you could use extra support, Foundry Terrace is here to help. Our counselling services are available Monday to Friday, 10am-6pm. Feel free to drop in or call us at 250-635-5596
