After a baby is born, we often have Mom, Dad, and whoever else is caring for the baby at our clinic complaining of neck and back pain from holding the baby for prolonged periods, feeding the baby, etc. A couple of easy recommendations to keep in mind are:
1.HAVE THE BABY RESTING ON A PILLOW ON YOUR LAP WHILE FEEDING ( rather than just making your neck and upper back muscles do all the work to hold the baby up) 2. WHEN STADING, DON’T EXCLUSIVELY HOLD YHE BABY ON THE SAME SIDE/WITH YOUR SAME ARM, BUT RATHER ALTERNATE SIDES AND ALSO HOLD THE BABY MIDLINE AT TIMES to prevent chronic tension patterns in your muscles that can result in spinal misalignment and back pain.
