💙 Back pain during pregnancy is more common than you think

Up to 7 in 10 moms experience it at some point 🤍
For many, it can start early and gradually affect sleep, movement, and everyday life.

Your body is going through a lot of changes
✨ your posture shifts
✨ your center of gravity moves forward
✨ your joints become more flexible
✨ your core support changes

And that can show up as discomfort in different ways:
💭 pain in the lower back or pelvis
💭 stiffness, especially in the morning
💭 discomfort with sitting, standing, or walking
💭 difficulty turning in bed

The good news is you don’t have to just push through it 💪

With the right guidance, movement, and support, you can manage symptoms and stay active throughout your pregnancy 🧠✨

Physiotherapy can help you move better, feel better, and prepare for recovery after birth.

You’re not alone in this 🤍

💪 L-sit challenge! Who’s lifting off?

We put our practitioners to the test to see who could actually hold an L-sit 👀
Looks simple… until you try it!

This movement demands:
🔥 Core strength
🔥 Shoulder stability
🔥 Hip flexor control
🔥 Serious endurance

Even for clinicians, strength and control matter. We don’t just prescribe exercises, we live them too 💪🧠

💙 Real conversations. Real impact.

Last week, our team stepped outside the clinic and into the community at Chartwell Thornhill as part of their March Into Wellness initiative.

What stood out most wasn’t just the presentation, it was the conversations.

From questions about staying independent, to managing pain day to day, to understanding when to seek care… these are the moments that matter.

Dr. Fine (Chiropractor) and Victoria (Physiotherapist) were on-site connecting directly with residents, breaking down complex topics into practical, easy to apply advice 🧠💪

Our practitioners truly enjoy working with older adults and are passionate about helping individuals stay active, independent, and confident in their movement.

Because good care isn’t just about treatment, it’s about education, prevention, and empowering people to move with confidence.

Thank you to Chartwell Thornhill for welcoming us into your community 🤝💙

🏀 Basketball jammed your thumb? It might not be “just a bruise.”

A thumb contusion is a direct impact injury that can damage soft tissue or even bone without an obvious fracture. More significant trauma can involve swelling, bruising, and even bone marrow contusions.

How to know if it could be more serious 👇
💙 Swelling over the thenar eminence
💙 Limited abduction or opposition
💙 Tenderness near the trapezium
💙 Visible deformity
💙 Severe motion restriction

Some injuries require immobilization, often with a thumb spica splint for 4 to 6 weeks before gradual range of motion begins.

Return to sport is not immediate. Grip and pinch athletes may need 6 to 10 weeks, with strength at least 80 percent of the uninjured side before full return.

See a physiotherapist if you notice persistent pain, instability, limited motion, or the thumb giving way. Early rehab helps prevent long term stiffness and performance limitations.

🏒 Knee buckled after contact? A look into Crosby’s injury
In high-speed sports, one awkward brace or rotation can overload the knee in seconds.

When a knee gives out, we usually think about:
🦵 ACL
🦵 Meniscus

ACL injuries often cause instability and rapid swelling.
Meniscus tears commonly cause sharp pain, catching, or locking.

Buckling does not automatically mean a full tear.
But it always deserves proper assessment.

Early diagnosis changes recovery timelines and return-to-sport outcomes 💪🧠

If your knee feels unstable, swollen, or locks after contact, get it checked.

That small swelling behind the knee? It’s a Baker’s cyst 🦵💧

In this reel, Victoria goes into detail on why it forms and how it can impact an athlete’s season.

Repetitive jumping, sharp pivots, and heavy training without enough recovery can irritate the knee joint. When that irritation builds up, extra fluid forms and creates swelling at the back of the knee.

If ignored, it can lead to:
✨ Pain with bending or squatting
✨ Tightness behind the knee
✨ Reduced mobility + performance

The fix isn’t just rest. It’s assessing knee mechanics, strength, flexibility, and training load to address the root cause 💪

Small swelling. Big consequences. Don’t overlook it.

🏋️‍♂️ Benching shouldn’t hurt.

If you get pain on the top of your shoulder when pressing… it might be your AC joint (where your collarbone meets your shoulder).

Common signs:
💙 Pain directly on top of the shoulder
💙 Pain with bench / dips / push-ups
💙 Pain reaching overhead
💙 Clicking or catching
💙 Pain bringing arm across chest

Most people rehab the wrong thing.

Real rehab focuses on:
💙 Scapular control
💙 Load management
💙 Progressive strengthening

Not just “rest.”

📍Top of shoulder pain? Think AC joint.

What you’re seeing here is manual therapy 👋

This is a specific hands-on technique that is different to massage or chiropractic adjustments.

Our physio Hafiz is assessing how each segment of the cervical spine moves and identifying where restrictions are limiting you. After identifying these regions, he guides the specific joint segment into it’s barrier in order to work through the restriction.

Manual therapy can
💙 Unlock stiff joints
💙 Reduce muscle guarding
💙 Calm your nervous system
💙 Make movement feel safe again
💙 Decrease stiffness and sensitivity

When joints are mobilized, your brain starts to see movement as safe 🧠 Pain signals turn down. Muscles relax. Movement feels easier.

For long term results, we pair hands on treatment with active rehab 💪

🎿 Should you ski 9 days after an ACL injury?

With high-profile ACL injuries on the Olympic stage this year, it’s a good reminder that knee stability matters at every level.
Honestly… just because you can walk doesn’t mean your knee is ready to handle skiing.

At only 9 days post-injury, your knee is usually still dealing with:
💙 swelling + inflammation
💙 weak quad activation
💙 poor balance + stability
💙 delayed reaction time

And skiing is basically a perfect storm of twisting, stopping, and sudden force.

🚨 The biggest risk isn’t pain, it’s your knee giving out unexpectedly… and turning a partial injury into a full rupture (or adding meniscus damage).

If you’ve recently injured your ACL, the smartest move is getting assessed and following a proper rehab plan before jumping back into sport 💪🧠

🫁💥 Not all costochondritis is the same

Costochondritis is inflammation where the ribs meet the sternum 🦴➡️🫀, often causing chest wall pain that is reproducible with movement or touch 🤕.

Typical costochondritis is usually short term and self limiting
💙 Symptoms often settle within weeks to months
💙 Often responds well to rest, medication, and activity modification

Atypical or chronic costochondritis is different
💙 Symptoms last longer than one year
💙 Poor response to conservative care
💙 Morning pain is common
💙 Pain may involve lower rib levels such as ribs eight through ten

Why this matters 👇

📌 Proper classification guides treatment
📌 Chronic cases rarely resolve on their own
📌 Targeted physiotherapy can lead to full resolution even after long symptom duration
Chest wall pain deserves proper assessment 🧠🩺 not guesswork 🚫.
