Who is authorized to dispense prescription eyewear in Ontario?

Only opticians, optometrists, and ophthalmologists are authorized to dispense prescription eyewear in Ontario. Always ensure you’re working with a regulated professional.

Opticians must be registered with the College of Opticians of Ontario to dispense eyewear. If you suspect an individual is dispensing without licensure, you can report it using the College’s Unauthorized Practice Reporting Form: https://buff.ly/3WJPQHh

The Government has lifted the requirement for masks in health care settings. Optical stores can set their own policies requiring masks for opticians, staff and/or patients.
