🌍✈️ CaSPR Repatriation Event in Ireland 🇨🇦
It was an honour to emcee today’s panel session and to welcome so many bright, motivated Canadian medical students studying here in Ireland! Repatriation isn’t just about filling jobs, it’s about strengthening healthcare, building foundational relationships, and ensuring patients have access to the care they deserve.
These conversations are essential. Meeting students where they are at allows us to be a source of information and support, but also to hear directly about the challenges students face so we can help them navigate their pathway home.
Key themes from today’s discussion:
• CaRMS policy changes were front and centre, for many Ontario students in Ireland, the announcement feels like a more secure path back home.
• For students who completed high school outside Ontario and are pursuing specialties, U.S. residency options are weighing more heavily.
• This shift will also influence elective requests at Ontario universities, as uncertainty about residency opportunities factors into students’ choices.
Thank you to CaSPR and Atlantic Bridge for the opportunity to participate in this event, and to our incredible partners and speakers for sharing their insights. The future of healthcare in Canada depends on creating clear, supportive pathways home for these physicians, and today was an important step in that direction. 💙
