We know exceptional care starts with highly trained and supported staff. Our upcoming Developmental Support Work (DSW) Conference next week is an investment in our team's professional growth and the quality of support we provide.

This year, our staff will be engaging in critical training, including:

Quality Care: A Family Perspective. This powerful session features insights and video messages from the families we support, ensuring our team provides truly person-centered and family-aware care.

Enhancing Mealtime Safety: Essential training led by experts to review best practices for minimizing swallowing risks.

Developmental Disability and Sexuality: An important introductory session to support our staff in understanding and advocating for the relationships, intimacy, and sexual health of people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

When you see our DSWs, know that they are continuously developing their skills to deliver the very best support.

We’re proud to share an update on one of our Strategic Directions for Children and Youth Services: expanding access to Family and Child/Youth Mental Health and Wellness Supports. 💙

This initiative began with a vision: every child, regardless of diagnosis or developmental stage, could access caring, professional support tailored to their emotional well-being.

Through increased service availability, a multi-platform awareness campaign, and partnerships like , we’re making that vision a reality: helping families find the guidance and tools they need to support their child’s growth.

This past Wednesday, October 22, we officially celebrated the Grand Opening of the new and improved greenhouse at Fly Road, a milestone made possible through a generous $75,000 donation from Credit Union

More than just a space to grow plants, this greenhouse is part of Bethesda’s Gardening Program, designed to cultivate confidence, independence, and community connections for adults living with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. Over the last several years since the program began, the efforts of these individuals have produced more than 800lbs of fresh vegetables and produce to Community Care of West Niagara, turning their gardening into a powerful act of giving back.

“The greenhouse is a place where individuals can learn, connect, and experience the joy of seeing something they’ve cared for thrive,” said Paul McGowan, CEO of Bethesda. “We are incredibly thankful to Meridian for their generous grant toward this initiative. Their support goes beyond funding- it’s a true testament to the power of collaboration and their vision for a better future for all.”

This new space allows participants to garden year-round, engage in therapeutic activities, and explore their creativity, all while growing fresh produce and personal pride.

Together, Bethesda and Meridian are sowing the seeds of hope, empowerment, and inclusion—ensuring every individual has the opportunity to flourish.
