📆For wounds to heal, it is important to ensure consistency of follow up appointments.

❤️‍🩹The wound healing process is very dynamic and changes time to time requiring reassessment and changes in care plan as well.

🧏‍♀️During follow ups your wound care specialist will reassess the wound by taking measurements and photographs to ensure wound healing is progressing well and the need to make changes or adjustments to the care plan according to wound presentation.

😓Missing appointments has been linked with delay in wound healing, wound deterioration and hospitalization.

✅Staying on top of your own care is essential to achieve wound healing.

👣 Debridement of necrotic, callus, and fibrous (keratosis) tissues is considered the first and the most important therapeutic step leading to wound closure in people with DFU.

☑️ Unhealthy tissue must be sharply debrided back to bleeding tissue.

🔎 It helps to fully visualize the extent of the ulcer.

📖 It has been reported that regular sharp debridement is associated with more rapid healing of ulcers.

🕖 Act quickly! If you have diabetes and develops a foot ulceration talk to your healthcare provider about getting a wound care specialist involved in your treatment from the begging.

⭐️Arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid that has been shown to decrease infections of hard to heal wounds.

❤️‍🩹If you have a wound that has not healed in less than 4 weeks talk to your healthcare provider about nutritional supplements.

🦶Did you know? Foot skin infections are among the most frequently (20.6%) reported disorders in people with diabetes.
In general, skin infection and dry skin (xerosis) have been shown to be highly prevalent with appropriate moisturizer cream.
🧴Among foot skin and nail infections in people with diabetes, fungus is more common than bacterial or viral infections.
🖐🏻 Repetitive trauma from ill-shoes is the most common cause of foot ulceration in people with diabetes.
🦶 Excessive immersion of the foot in soap and water, together with the presence of damage to the cuticle of periungual fold, may result in distortion of the underlying tissues of the nail, causing spaces that can be easily infected.

👟Fitting footwear is the primary cause of foot ulceration in people with diabetes, with 20% of presenting ulcers being due to shoes rubbing.

❤️‍🩹It has been shown that diabetic foot ulcerations are largely preventable when using custom off-loading footwear with ulcer recurrence rates found to decrease by 53% over a year follow up. Re-ulceration rates were found to be 26% among therapeutic footwear group and 83% among those who wore their own footwear in ischemic and neuropathic ulcers, from a cohort of 386 ulcerations presented in clinic. Off-loading pressure is therefore indispensable for stopping the potential progression of pre-ulcerative conditions toward lesions
