Notice to Members May 22, 2020

Hello TBYC Boaters

Great news. The Travel Lift is operational and launch will begin tomorrow Saturday May 23, 2020 beginning at 1000 hrs. The signup book is in the hallway by the washrooms of the clubhouse. The regular rules apply to being approved to launch; current insurance must be provided in advance and your account must also be current. Any outstanding fees or lapsed insurance equals no launch. We have had to amend our launch protocol and mast stepping protocol due to COVID-19. Please review the launch protocols on the TBYC website, which will remain in effect until further notice. Please have patience and take extra care this year while launching.

Launch schedule will be Tuesday and Thursday starting at 1300 hrs and Saturday and Sunday starting at 1000 hrs.

For everyone’s protection and safety no one who has respiratory symptoms or other symptoms of COVID-19 is permitted to be on site. Please stay home and seek medical attention.

We are almost ready to also launch the online launch schedule so stay tuned for that rollout. Many changes at TBYC some that were planned well in advance and others that have been thrust upon us due to circumstance beyond our control. The board of TBYC has been working hard to deal with everything thrown our way. I would like to thank all those who have stepped up to the plate this spring to make things happen. Great job and happy boating.

Cheers

Launch Update Thursday May 14, 2020

As part of the annual maintenance of the travel lift an inspection was completed today. Unfortunately it did not pass the inspection and four cables must be replaced. Cables have been ordered and will be installed upon arrival. We will begin launch schedule as soon as possible after the new cables are installed. Clearly this means that we will not be launching boats this weekend. When we have a firm date for the launch schedule we will let you know.

We are sorry that boating can not begin this weekend but safety comes first.

Regards

Hugh Briggs

TBYC Update May 7, 2020

Hello TBYC Members

The executive has been working hard this spring through the disruption that we are now in. Please look for the Bulletin that will be coming out very soon. Thanks Andrew Haill. Racing has been communicating directly to the Racing Fleet. Thanks Geoff Hall. Thanks to the various committees and work of all the executive. Thank you.

Yard Updates

- Clubhouse washrooms are now available to members, the hallway door into the main hall is blocked and secured. The clubhouse key lock cylinder has been reinstalled on the rear entrance door, a first aid kit, fire extinguisher are available outside the washrooms in the hallway.

- COVID-19 signs have been installed to remind all to wash your hands and maintain a 2 meter distance between people.

- The washrooms will be cleaned and disinfected daily by our contract cleaning firm.

- The outside telephone at the rear of the building is working for emergency use and general use.

- The gate code has been changed. If you need the code please reach out to Richard Matheson directly. Your fob and remotes will continue to work.

- We are working on additional signage as recommended by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. Please look for them soon.

- The yard water will be turned on once we are free of freezing temperatures overnight. Please be patient.

Launch Date

We do not have a firm date for the start of launch yet. We are working on servicing the Travel Lift and the yard with additional gravel so please be patient. We also are working on a touch-less method of signup for launch dates and times. These are necessities during these times of disruption and the pandemic. Please be patient. We will let you know when we know more.

For members who hold a dock at Mission Island - if you are not planning to launch in the 2020 Season, please contact Richard Matheson or Don Debryune to coordinate holding your slip (standard fee reduction applies).

TBYC COVID-19 Update May 4th, 2020.

Last week the provincial government announced that effective May 4th certain businesses would be allowed to re-open under strict safety guidelines.

Marinas may now begin preparations for the recreational boating season by servicing boats and other watercraft, and placing boats in the water, but marinas may not open to the public. Boats and watercraft placed in the water must be secured to a dock in the marina until public access is allowed.

TBYC re-opening will be consistent with the following principles:

1. The safety of club members and employees is paramount.

2. The Club will follow guidance from scientists and medical experts regarding “best practices” for eliminating risks associated with the pandemic.

3. The Club will respect directives/orders (both the letter and spirit) from the federal, provincial and municipal governments.

4. The plan will be flexible in its implementation to accommodate changes that may occur as the situation evolves.

As of Monday May 4th 2020, only TBYC members are allowed on site to begin preparations. Members may engage Contractors under their direct supervision to work on their boats on site.

Clubhouse to remain closed
-Working on options for access to washrooms

Launch
-Travel lift maintenance will begin shortly
-Launch start date to be determined

Other maintenance work underway
-Gravel for the yard
-Water in the yard as weather permits

Further updates will be sent as more information becomes available. The executive is continuing to work on solutions to the ever-fluid situation that we find ourselves in.

TBYC COVID-19 Update. May 1st, 2020. Limited Yard Access.

Greetings from the hard.

Again first and foremost, I hope that you and your loved ones are managing all right during these challenging times.

The province of Ontario has released a roadmap to reopening businesses, services and public spaces but has not indicated dates at this time. Please be aware that the TBYC executive is monitoring news releases and updates and will provide pertinent information when it is available.

As well, the Ontario government has extended the Declaration of Emergency to May 12, 2020. Therefore, the TBYC property remains closed. The locks on the clubhouse doors have been changed to ensure the safety of all members. The docks, mast crane and pumpout remain closed as well. Our Facility Manager has been visiting, and will continue to visit, the yard daily to check on the general condition of the club.

The executive recently met however, and acknowledged that some members are concerned about their boats. Winter covering tarps may cause damage to boats and infrastructure so it was agreed that members would now be able to ‘check their tarps’. Members will be allowed to access the yard to check their boats under the following conditions - only one person per boat, strict social distancing, inspection and correcting tarps only and most importantly NO WORK to be done other than measures required for immediate safety. Members must visit to the yard in the afternoon when our Facility Manager is usually around the club.

The executive has struck two subcommittees to address Restarting of Operations and Review of Fees. The Restarting of Operations committee will put together and revise, as needed, the plan to be implemented once restrictions are lifted. The Review of Fees committee will review the current status of fees including Annual Service Fees and Docking Fees. Both subcommittees will be reporting back to the executive within a couple of weeks.

We kindly ask everyone to remember that no work can take place on club property while we are under the Provincial Emergency Order.

Please stay healthy, stay home and stay tuned.

TBYC COVID-19 Update. Monday April 13th.

Greetings from the hard.

First and foremost, I hope you and your loved ones are managing all right during these challenging times.

The purpose of this message is to remind you that the TBYC property remains CLOSED to all users, for all uses. For clarification this includes; the boat yard, all docks, and the clubhouse building. Our Facility Manager has been conducting daily checks to ensure the property remains secure and that members are not breaking the Provincial Emergency Order. So far, so good! Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in beating this pandemic.

I am also aware that there has been some speculation about when we might get back to normal spring preparations. Unfortunately, the Emergency Order issued by the Province of Ontario has been extended until April 23, 2020 and may continue to be extended in two-week increments indefinitely. TBYC will remain closed until the Emergency Order is lifted. While we all want to get out on the water, we have a wider responsibility to keep our, families, friends and the community safe from this pandemic. Please remain safe, stay healthy and stay home.

Please know that the Board of Directors and several committees of volunteers are working on plans to restart operations as soon as the Emergency Order is lifted. These include; preparing the travel lift for use, planned upgrades to the yard and docks, social events and the racing program. More details will follow once they are available.

In the meantime, stay healthy, stay home, and stay tuned.

The government has ordered the closure of all non-essential services which includes the Thunder Bay Yacht Club Mission Island yard and clubhouse.

Effective Saturday April 4th, 2020 the Mission Island yard and clubhouse will be closed to member use.

TBYC programmes will be postponed until further notice. This may impact timelines for our boating season.

TBYC committees will continue planning as this situation develops.

"This closure will be in effect for 14 days, with the possibility of an extension as the situation evolves." - Government of Ontario

No-one should be at the Mission Island yard for any reason - working on your boat or preparing for the summer boating season.

Let's work together to get through this as quickly as we can without losing any of our fine boaters to this deadly virus..

"Everyone in Ontario should stay home unless absolutely necessary and practice physical distancing to reduce their exposure to other people. Avoid close contact (within 2 metres) with people outside of your immediate families." - Government of Ontario
