Did you know? Elizabeth Smellie was born in Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay). She was a notable Canadian nurse and educator who served as Chief Superintendent of the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) from 1924 to 1947. During the Second World War, she also served in the Canadian Military and became the first woman in the Canadian Army to achieve the rank of Colonel.
In the upcoming film Bluebird, her life and experiences—particularly after returning from the battlefields—will be brought to the screen.

🎥Synopsis: In 1918, Elizabeth (Beth) Smellie from Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay) had just returned from the battlefields of Europe to face the worst Influenza pandemic in history. Her experiences transformed her. This hour long docu-drama will trace Beth Smellie’s vocation as a public health nurse. We will use dramatizations, archival footage, photographs, and sound design to tell the moving story of Canada’s Florence Nightingale.
