Congratulations to our physiotherapists who took on the Toronto Waterfront Races this weekend! In a race of over 20,000 runners, Emma raced the half marathon, finishing 7th in her age group and 21st overall female in a time of 1:24:35. Marlee raced the 5km and ran strong for a time of 25:20. If you see them in the clinic this week be sure to give them a high five!

WELCOME EMMA VAILLANCOURT

Fanti + Associates, Physiotherapists is pleased to welcome Emma to their team. Emma has been practicing as a Physiotherapist since 2014 mainly in the London area but hails from Manitoulin Island. She has post-graduate training in manual therapy and dry needling. Her particular area of interest is in the assessment and treatment of running injuries. Emma is a former varsity level cross-country and track athlete and she remains active in the sport today. She has completed extensive training in running-specific assessment and rehabilitation, including gait analysis. Emma applies this skillset to runners of all levels to assist with returning from injury as well as improving performance.

What does a running assessment involve?
1. Detailed interview – understanding your running history, current training and any current or past injuries
2. Functional movement assessment and strength testing
3. Slow motion video analysis of your running gait to pinpoint any relevant biomechanical issues
4. Development of a treatment plan including:
a. Home Exercise Program
b. Training Recommendations
c. Gait re-training with cues and homework to help you refine your running technique

What will follow-up sessions involve?
1. Review of home exercise program and current training tolerance
2. Hands-on treatment (when applicable) to assist in recovery
3. Review of running gait and cueing with further guidance as needed
4. Further education and guidance on training and recovery strategies

Emma had previously graduated with a health promotion degree and is eager to continue utilizing this knowledge developing her individualized treatment plans.

WELCOME MARLEE CLEMENT - Physiotherapist

Fanti + Associates, Physiotherapists is pleased to welcome Marlee to their team. Marlee graduated from Laurentian University with a Bachelor of Education (2014) and a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education with a specialization in Health Promotion (2013). She then pursued her Master of Science Degree in Physical Therapy at Queens University in Kingston Ontario, graduating in 2016. Working at the clinic, Marlee is able to apply her practical and interpersonal skills in physiotherapy, teaching and health promotion. Marlee is actively involved in the ski community in Thunder Bay and Sudbury; assisting with numerous skiing and running events throughout the year, as well as, giving seminars at cross-country Ontario skiing camps aimed at health promotion, core and functional strength.

Marlee was born and raised in Sudbury, ON. Marlee has a big love for the outdoors! She enjoys cross country skiing, running, yoga, and camping. In addition to her work at Fanti + Associates Physiotherapists, Marlee is an Assistant Coach with Big Thunder Nordic, as well as, Walden Nordic ski club for cross country skiing.

Marlee believes in patient centered care, self-management, preventive health and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Marlee always individualizes her treatment plans to each client in order to meet their personal goals and objectives. Her teaching background enhances her desire for lifelong learning in order to further her client care. Marlee has additional qualifications in Acupuncture and Dry Needling, neuro-kinetic training, exercise prescription, as well as, courses in soft tissue release and K-taping.
