One month into 2025, and a lot of us feel that all the excitement we felt about New Years Resolutions is already starting to dwindle. So, this year what if you try something different and instead of setting vague, outcome based goals like “eating healthier” or “start going to the gym”; focus more on achievable behavioural based goals like “adding one serving of vegetables to each meal” or “strength training for one hour on Mondays and Wednesdays”.

An outcome based goal places emphasis on the desired result, whereas a behavioural based goal focuses on the specific actions and habits you will take to achieve your desired result. Behavioural based goals generally are more effective as you have more control over the final result, and it gives you a roadmap to get where you want to go. In addition, they are great for keeping you motivated as you can celebrate each small win!

It’s a common misconception that the main reason to see a personal trainer is to lose weight. While I am happy to support my clients with this goal, there are so many other reasons to workout that I like to focus on in my work at Maitri. With a large portion of my client base being older adults, a big area of focus for me is fall prevention.

It’s a well known fact that as we age, our risk of falls increases. But it’s also true that falls, and the potential negative outcome, can be largely prevented! A combination of strength, balance and the ability to react quickly play a critical role in the ability to recover from a fall - all of which are incorporated into my programs for older adults 💪🏼

One whole year since I took the plunge and made Maitri my full time gig, and what a year it’s been 💕

One year ago today, I wrapped up my last day at my accounting job, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement, and immediately set off for my annual hiking trip in Pukaskwa National Park. It was a leap of faith into the unknown, trading comfort and stability for the rewarding challenge of fully investing in Maitri.

Fast forward to today, as I’m about to leave for that same cherished trip, my heart is overflowing with gratitude. This past year has been a whirlwind of growth, learning, and joy. I am deeply thankful for my incredible clients, friends and family for your unwavering support.

Going into this long weekend, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been part of this journey. Here’s to celebrating the milestones, embracing the challenges, and looking forward to another year of growth and success. Happy long weekend, everyone!
