Not all concussion care is created equal.

At Fairway Physiotherapy, we partner with Shift Concussion Management to ensure our care aligns with the latest evidence and standardized protocols.

We have 6 certified providers trained in comprehensive concussion assessment and rehabilitation:

• 3 Physiotherapists
• 1 Occupational Therapist
• 1 Chiropractor
• 1 Kinesiologist

This allows us to deliver collaborative, individualized care — all under one roof.

If you or someone you know is navigating a concussion, we’re here to help guide recovery safely and effectively.

Returning to work or school too quickly can worsen symptoms and delay recovery.

A structured return plan may include:

• Reduced hours
• Scheduled cognitive breaks
• Gradual increase in screen exposure
• Modified workload
• Environmental adjustments

Our team — including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic, and kinesiology — collaborates to support safe reintegration.

Recovery isn’t just about sport. It’s about daily life.

Exercise after a concussion?

Yes — when prescribed properly.

Research shows that controlled, sub-symptom threshold aerobic exercise can:

• Improve autonomic regulation
• Reduce symptom severity
• Improve recovery timelines
• Prevent deconditioning

The key is structure and monitoring.

We use individualized heart rate targets and gradual progression to support safe recovery.

Concussion rehab is not passive. It’s strategic.

Still dealing with symptoms weeks after your concussion?

You’re not alone — and you’re not “broken.”

Persistent post-concussion symptoms are often related to:

• Neck dysfunction
• Vestibular (inner ear) issues
• Visual tracking deficits
• Autonomic nervous system dysregulation
• Deconditioning

These are treatable.

Recovery doesn’t stop at two weeks. With targeted rehabilitation, most individuals continue to improve.

If symptoms are lingering, it’s time for a comprehensive assessment.

Youth sports build confidence, teamwork, and resilience — but they also carry concussion risk.

If an athlete sustains a hit to the head:

• Remove them from play immediately
• Do not allow same-day return
• Monitor for symptoms
• Follow a structured return-to-play protocol

Being “symptom-free” for a day does not mean the brain is fully recovered.

We work with athletes, parents, and coaches to guide safe return to school and sport using standardized protocols developed through Shift Concussion Management.

When in doubt — get assessed.

Let’s clear up a few common concussion myths:

Myth: You have to lose consciousness to have a concussion.
Fact: Most concussions occur without loss of consciousness.

Myth: You should stay in a dark room until symptoms are gone.
Fact: Prolonged rest can delay recovery.

Myth: Kids always recover faster than adults.
Fact: Youth athletes can take longer to recover.

Myth: If symptoms last more than two weeks, you’re stuck with them.
Fact: Persistent symptoms are treatable with targeted rehab.

Evidence-based care matters. Outdated advice can prolong recovery.

If you’re unsure whether symptoms are “normal,” we’re here to help.

Fairway Physiotherapy has been a proud supporter of the CPC Program since 2014. This program has been integral to improving equitable access to physiotherapy care in Northwestern Ontario. With the growing needs of our communities in the North, we continue to advocate alongside with the Ontario Physiotherapy Association (OPA) for expansion of the CPC Program to further meet your needs and to support you in better health. Thank you to the OPA for its tireless efforts on behalf of Northwestern Ontario!

OPA advocates for CPC Program sustainability ahead of April 2026 TPA renewal. Learn key recommendations for EOC payment increases and program improvements.

Concussion treatment has evolved.

Complete rest in a dark room is no longer the gold standard.

Modern concussion rehabilitation may include:
• Graduated return-to-activity planning
• Sub-symptom threshold aerobic exercise
• Vestibular rehabilitation
• Vision therapy strategies
• Cervical spine treatment
• Autonomic nervous system regulation

At Fairway Physiotherapy, we have 6 certified providers trained through Shift Concussion Management (3 PT, 1 OT, 1 DC, 1 Kin), allowing us to provide collaborative, evidence-based care under one roof.

When most people think of a concussion, they think of a headache.

But concussions can present in many different ways.

Common symptoms include:
• Brain fog
• Dizziness
• Light or sound sensitivity
• Fatigue
• Irritability
• Sleep disruption
• Neck pain
• Difficulty concentrating

Symptoms don’t always appear immediately. They can develop hours — sometimes days — after the injury.

Early assessment matters. Proper management reduces the risk of prolonged symptoms and delayed recovery.

If you or your child has experienced a hit to the head, don’t wait it out.
