I hope this information will help a sister out as i didn’t know this.....
DID YOU KNOW that women
AGE 40
and up can have a mammogram without needing a referral from a Dr? This changed many years ago yet someone forgot to share the information!!
*Just simply call any clinic that has a mammogram machine and book an appointment for a scan that simple.
If something shows up on the first scan, you will receive a call from the clinic you receive the scan at, to come back for an additional type of mammogram and a ultrasound.
This will help identify what the techniques have seen on the first mammogram.
If nothing shows up you will get a call from your Dr to let you know all is fine.
Now if the technician feels there is something fishy that can not be identified by ultrasound and the second mammogram the next step would trigger you Dr and The Linda Buchan Center at the hospital.
This is where a biopsy will be scheduled to rule out cancer.
You should receive the findings in 2 weeks. If you haven't heard back from your Dr CALL him/she and ask if they have received any information back.
I also recommend you receive a copy as information can be left out or over looked by you physician.
This was my personal experience and don't want something else to experience the same thing...
I haven't had a family physician for the past 10 yrs always using a walk-in clinic when needed.
I had asked for a mammogram at least twice that I know of. I expected i would receive a letter/call with an appointment? well that never happened and time went on and I would forget about it until sometime would feel off.
Symptoms are not black & white,
Example:
"They" say cancer doesn't hurt, pain was why/how i knew something was wrong. Having lumpy breast makes it harder to detect lumps, having a mammogram becomes a very important part of your yearly medical exam.. My lump wasn't detected by any Dr I saw until it grow 1.7 cm.
On the bottom of my mammogram it says .. see imagine, I never received any recall...
