Tuesday 25 November 2025 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the start of the 16 Days of Activism.
Each year, from 25 November to 10 December (Human Rights Day), this global campaign calls for action against one of the world’s most persistent human rights violations - violence against women.
This year’s theme is "End tech-facilitated violence against all women and girls.”
TfGBV can occur across spaces such as social media and gaming communities. Technology can be misused to enable gender-based violence through rideshare and dating apps as an example. Some forms of TfGBV are apparent through video and imaging, trolling, cyber-harassment, doxxing, hate speech, hacking, stalking, and defamation
TfGBV especially impacts women and girls, but also targets people based on their real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.
Online violence is real violence. Even though it may begin online, it can cause serious physical, sexual, psychological, and economic harm for those experiencing it, and potential criminal consequences for those who perpetrate it.
