If you consume 5 or more drinks per day, stopping suddenly can be hard on your body. Alcohol affects your brain and nervous system, and when it’s removed suddenly, serious withdrawal symptoms can occur.

If you drink alcohol, limiting your intake to two standard drinks or less per occasion is recommended.

Alcohol doesn’t just influence how we feel-it changes how our brain functions. When we drink, alcohol slows communication in areas of the brain that control judgment, decision-making, and impulse control.

Good news? Understanding this can help you make choices that keep social gatherings positive and safe.

Did you know?

Alcohol can play a role in cancer risk. Research shows that drinking alcohol, even in small amounts, can increase the likelihood of certain cancers, like those of the mouth, liver, and pancreas.

The good news? Every step you take to reduce your alcohol intake can make a difference for your health. Whether it’s swapping a drink for a mocktail or setting alcohol-free days, small changes make a difference.

Your health is about choices, not perfection.
