Breastfeeding through pregnancy/Toddlerhood
Breastfeeding through pregnancy is possible! Especially when you have an older babe at-home who still relies on nursing for comfort and/or nutrition.
Is it safe to continue?
Generally Breastfeeding can be done safely through pregnancy, as long as the pregnancy is Low-Risk. There will be changes in Milk taste/Texture (transition back to colustrum) there may be a dip in supply. Generally around the 4th Month gestation, around 20 or so weeks .
There can be some minor uterine contractions the further along you go in pregnancy, but generally does not pose a risk to mom/fetus.
Its always best to discuss with your OB or Midwife the best plan of action for your care! We are here to guide you with information, and informed choice.
Many mothers choose to tandem feed both older child & newborn. For how long is up to you!
Me personally (lady in the photo) I nursed my 1st till 4.5yrs old, tandem fed for 18mths with my 2nd (little dude in photo) who continued to nurse throughout my 3rd pregnancy and still nursing a few times a week at 2.5yrs old! I do feel his journey of weaning may have begun , but I am cherishing every tandem & solo feed we still continue to have!
