Another important component of posture is having proper length of muscles in the front.

Unless you are a ballet dancer you probably have some rounded shoulders and head forward carriage. This happens when we spend a lot of time leaning over our phones or computers, so almost everyone.

In this position our pectoral muscles in the chest and the muscles in the front of our neck and right at the base of our skull are shortened. When we stretch these muscles, either from massage or self stretching, we can help make having better posture easier.

Let’s talk about Glutes. These are the muscles in your buttocks that help to stabilize your pelvis and upper body. They connect your low back and pelvis to your hips. They are the largest muscles in our body.

Your glutes are often tight if you sit a lot, maybe at work or school. And are often over looked for stretching and strengthening.

Tight glute muscles can often contribute to low back pain, low hip mobility, and pain in the hips and pelvic region.

Here are 3 stretches to help relieve tight glute muscles:

1. knee to opposite shoulder
2. Figure 4 stretch
3. Pigeon stretch

For anyone experiencing jaw pain and tightness I’ve made a quick video with some self massage techniques that will help.

Personally from all the extra stress and anxiety of the pandemic mixed with wearing masks constantly my jaw has been really sore.
