Did you know UHN has an Indigenous Wellness Centre at Toronto Western Hospital?

Guided by UHN’s Indigenous Health Program and created in collaboration with an Indigenous design team, the Centre has opened its doors as place for gathering, traditional medicines, ceremony and learning. This is a space built by the community, for the community.

The Centre comes about as part of UHN’s commitment to reconciliation and effecting change within the Canadian health care system. Through this space, we recognize the value of traditional healing practices, collaborate with Aboriginal Healers and Elders, and lower barriers for care within the community.

A stroke can happen at any time. Knowing what to look for can save a life. Be F.A.S.T!
F: face drooping
A: arm or leg weakness
S: speech difficulty
T: time to call 911 – every second counts!

Recognizing the signs of stroke and responding quickly can be the difference between life and death, or between full recovery and long-term disability. Our interdisciplinary stroke teams at Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto Rehab and West Park Healthcare Centre are integral to all aspects of stroke care, including prevention, acute services, rehabilitation, and community reintegration.

Follow the Stroke Team at UHN’s Toronto Western Hospital and see how they respond to a patient arriving with emergent stroke symptoms.

Today, we celebrate what makes our country strong: compassion, diversity, innovation and community. We are proud to serve patients from throughout Ontario and across Canada, and grateful to be part of a healthcare system rooted in equity and excellence.

On this day of celebration, we also take a moment to reflect on the land we share and honour the enduring contributions of Indigenous Peoples in shaping the Canada we know today.

Thank you to the many members of TeamUHN working today to ensure uninterrupted patient care.

Happy Canada Day to all who call this country home. 🇨🇦 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined TeamUHN at the 2025 Toronto Pride Parade this weekend! 🌈

We are so grateful to celebrate with staff, patients, friends and chosen family alike. The progress made in advancing 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, including in health care, is the result of decades of work by individuals and communities who refused to be invisible. As we walk together, we reaffirm our commitment to inclusivity, dignity, and respect for all.

A special thanks goes out to the Princess Margaret Sexual & Gender Diversity in Cancer Care Committee for organizing this year's walk. Learn more about their work, access 2SLGBTQIA+ resources for patients and health care providers, and find out about upcoming events:

UHN and CAMH are bridging the gap between physical and mental health care.

In a Toronto Star op-ed, UHN and CAMH Presidents and CEOs Dr. Kevin Smith and Sarah Downey shared how the new partnership between two globally recognized institutions will create a more connected health system. Early findings from joint research and collaboration are already improving care delivery through real-time studies, trauma-informed training, and seamless service connections.

This partnership marks the beginning of a transformation in integrated care in Toronto, in Canada – and around the world.

To mark National Indigenous Peoples Day, TeamUHN clinicians, staff, learners, and leaders gathered in the new Indigenous Wellness Centre at Toronto Western Hospital to honour the diverse cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Canada. The celebration featured a traditional opening, interactive cultural activities and an inspiring community speaker.

At UHN, we are working to ensure Indigenous perspectives and practices are not only included, but foundational to how care is delivered across our organization. Our Indigenous Health Program (IHP) integrates traditional medicines and land-based teachings while creating space for Indigenous leadership, knowledge, and creativity in health care.

"May we listen more deeply, learn more intentionally, and act more courageously in support of Indigenous health and wellness. We look forward to celebrating together in the spirit of community, strength, and hope." - Marnie Escaf, Clinical Vice President at UHN.

This celebration is a chance for all of TeamUHN to reflect on how we can walk the path of reconciliation in our daily work.
