Today is Pink Shirt Day, recognized around the world as a day to stand up against bullying.

Embracing differences is an important element in building A Healthier World and keeping patients, families, and staff safe from bullying. TeamUHN is encouraged to wear a pink shirt to show support for the work happening in schools and further raise awareness about this important social issue.

February is Therapeutic Recreation Month!

This month, we’re celebrating the Recreation Therapists, Recreation Therapy Assistants, Recreation Aids, and Patient Wellness Partners at UHN who bring purpose, joy, and connection into patient care through leisure and recreation. From individual and group programs and special events, therapeutic recreation supports well-being and quality of life by introducing – or reintroducing – patients to leisure participation.

“In reactivation, every small step – whether it’s regaining confidence through activity, reconnecting with a favourite hobby, or simply sharing a smile, represents progress and hope,” - Angela, Recreation Therapist at UHN’s Reactivation Care Centre.

Thank you, Angela, for helping patients reconnect with what matters most.

There’s something new on our walls! 🖼️

Thanks to a generous donation from ArtWorks For Cancer – a not-for-profit dedicated to transforming hospital clinics into warm and hopeful care spaces – we’ve added 50 new pieces of artwork to two of our surgical units at UHN’s Sprott Department of Surgery.

Included in the collection are six staff-captured photographs - five of which were donated by a member of TeamUHN who cares for patients in one of the units, bringing a personal touch to the space they support every day.

Together, these contributions help create calmer, more comfortable environments for patients and staff.

We’re proud to recognize Wear Red Canada, an annual initiative dedicated to raising awareness about women’s heart and vascular health.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women worldwide and the leading cause of premature death in Canadian women. Yet, 80 percent of a woman’s risk factors are within her control, and heart disease is largely preventable.

UHN actively supports women's cardiac health through clinical care, education, and research that empowers women to take control of their heart health.

On February 13, Canadians are invited to wear red to help raise awareness. Throughout the month, events across the country serve as a reminder to all Canadians, but especially women, to be mindful, curious, and proactive in managing heart health and wellness.

Happy Resident Doctor Appreciation Week!

This week, we’re recognizing the important contributions of the medical residents and clinical fellow doctors at UHN. Residents contribute as learners, teachers, clinicians, researchers, and advocates – helping shape the future of health care while delivering compassionate patient care.

“As a resident, you get to spend a little more time with patients, and I think that enhances the joy of making people get better and get back to their regular lives.” - William, General Internal Medicine Resident at UHN.

Thank you to our medical residents and clinical fellows for the care, dedication, and heart you bring to your work every day.

February is Black History Month, a time to honor the significant contributions and resilience of Black people across all identities.

This month offers TeamUHN an opportunity to learn about the impact of Black leaders, scientists, artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, and everyday heroes in Canada. Canada’s healthcare system has greatly benefited from the contributions of Black trailblazers and at UHN, the contributions and expertise of Black colleagues are deeply valued.

As we honour past achievements and look toward the future, it remains crucial to continue fostering an inclusive and equitable environment. We are committed to fighting institutional racism by addressing racism in care, employment, education, and research.
