Meet the next generation of scientists and health care professionals!

These grade 9 students had a jam-packed Take Our Kids to Work Day at UHN! TeamUHN leaders across patient care, rehabilitation, clinical research, corporate affairs and education offered the freshman an insightful introduction to the health care industry and its diverse career trajectories. Scroll to see some of the day's activities, which included cast-making, patient care simulations, and hands-on learning with PPE and equipment!

Patrick was diagnosed with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), a rare and fatal form of high blood pressure. Without surgical intervention, he was given 18 months to live.

Follow Patrick's care journey after being referred to UHN’s world-class thoracic surgery team. At the home of the largest dedicated CTEPH program in Canada, Patrick undergoes a complex 10-hour surgery to remove the blockages and scar tissue in his arteries.

Happy Nurse Practitioner Week!

This week, we’re celebrating Nure Practitioners like Shannon at UHN’s Mental Health in Medicine Clinic. Shannon helps patients with mental health needs by performing psychiatric assessments, prescribing medications, coordinating treatment plans, and providing referrals to community resources. She enjoys supporting patients as they progress through their care journey.

“I really enjoy learning each patients’ story – understanding where they’ve come from, where they are now, and then helping them develop and reach their goals.”

This Perioperative Nurses Week, we’re recognizing the expertise and compassion of nurses who support patients before surgery.

Meet Anna Rita, a perioperative nurse who has been part of TeamUHN for more than 20 years, bringing empathy, critical thinking, and leadership to the OR.

Reflecting on her career, Anna Rita says, “I never imagined stepping into a leadership role when I started in the OR, but over time I’ve grown into it. I’m proud of how I’ve learned to communicate and stay calm under pressure.”

Happy Patient Transportation Week!

This week, we’re recognizing the porters who ensure patients are transported between units and departments safely and with compassion. They also work behind the scenes to deliver essential equipment, specimens, and supplies, and their interactions with patients offer reassurance when it’s needed most.

“I do what I can to help people feel comfortable, whether it’s through casual conversation or laughter. I try to take their mind off of their worries and create a good memory of being in the hospital.” – Madeline, Porter at UHN.

It’s Medical Radiation Technologist Week!

Today we’re spotlighting Denise, a CT technologist who has been a member of TeamUHN since 2008. Denise has helped patients through diagnostic imaging from X-ray to CT scans. She loves working with her colleagues and making a difference in patients’ lives. “No day is the same,” says Denise — and that’s what keeps her motivated.
