With her strong leadership, strategic mindset and passion for delivering the best experiences for residents, Laura was recently promoted to Regional Director of Operations for British Columbia.
Learn more about her experience and new role in her own words:

Q: How long have you been working at Amica and your current residence?
A: I was the General Manager at for 5 years and recently promoted to Regional Director of Operations for BC this summer.

Q: What initially drew you to this industry?
A: I previously worked in luxury hospitality, but craved more meaningful relationships. I find that the senior living industry has the perfect balance of purpose, business, leadership and strategy.

Q: What are some of your roles and responsibilities?
A: I support the General Managers and leadership teams of 5 residences in the lower mainland and Victoria. I regularly visit the residences across the assigned region to evaluate operational effectiveness, including compliance with set standards, policies, and procedures and general observations of resident services operations.

Q: What do you love most about working at Amica?
I love coaching the leadership teams, supporting families and residents during an important chapter of their lives.

Q: Any there any special moments, achievements, or milestones you’d like to share?
A: When Amica Lions Gate won Amica of the Year in 2022 and 2023! ALG achieved 100% occupancy 13 months after the expansion opened. I’m very proud to be a part of various leadership development over the years and watching careers blossom. It’s also an honor to help guide residents and their families during this chapter. I get to build meaningful relationships with team members, residents and families. I get to know grandchildren, anniversary dates, and learn all about the exciting life lessons from residents.

Say hello to Michele.👋 Our wonderful Wellness Nurse at , Michele helps provide exceptional care and holistic wellness to our residents.

Q: How long have you been working at Amica and your current residence?
A: I have been working at in Victoria since August 2024.

Q: What are some of your roles and responsibilities?
A: My position is very broad. I work as a Wellness Nurse and I am responsible for supervising the Care Aides, the day to day operation of the Wellness Office and assisting the Director of Wellness. My responsibilities include: resident assessments, updating care plans, communication with family members and physicians, checking and following up with physician orders, re-ordering of medications, incident reports, post-hospital and post-fall assessments, updating resident charts, updating eMAR information, monthly blood pressure clinic, ordering medical supplies and training new staff nurses. It is a busy but rewarding position.

Q: What do you love most about working at Amica?
A: What I love about working at Amica Somerset House is that the residents are in their own homes. This is not a long term care environment...it is a home environment. Somerset House is unique in its own way. It is a relaxing and friendly environment with both staff and residents. I also feel that at Amica, you have the opportunity to grow and advance in your career.

Q: Tell us about a time you feel made a difference and owned your impact.
A: For me, making a difference means being able to give the residents that extra time with each visit. Sometimes you assist a resident to resolve a situation or you are dealing with an emergent situation.

For more than 13 years, Kristen has been creating meaningful moments for residents — from planning engaging daily programs to organizing special celebrations that bring joy and connection to everyone in the community:

Q: How long have you been working at Amica and your current residence?
A: I’ve been working with Amica for over 13 years and helped open in 2021.

Q: What initially drew you to this residence and industry?
A: I started volunteering at Amica Whitby as I enjoyed being around seniors and helping to make them smile every day. Amica has always felt like a second home, which is why I've stayed with the organization for all these years!

Q: What are some of your roles and responsibilities?
A: I am the Life Enrichment Coordinator at , where I plan events, excursions, and activities to engage and inspire our seniors. This includes fitness classes as well as special events like Hispanic Heritage Month, Oktoberfest, and Amica's National Sip & Savour where we explore different cultures and cuisines.

Q: What do you love most about working at Amica?
A: I love making a difference in the lives of our residents. It is incredibly rewarding knowing that my team can impact so many people. For example, I often think about when a resident told me I'm one of the main reasons they love getting up in the morning.

Q: Tell us about a time you feel you made a difference and owned your impact.
A: One difference I made was when a team member’s daughter came to volunteer under my guidance. Their daughter told me how much of an impact I had on her and said, “I want to be just like you when I grow up.” I’m proud to say she is now pursuing a career in Recreation and Leisure.

Q: Are there any special moments, achievements, or milestones you’d like to share? A: A special moment was when I was nominated and recognized by my colleagues from other Amica sister properties for creating a positive impact and fostering a supportive environment. I take pride in working hard to help others succeed.
