Ask the Nurse Practitioner: How and when should I introduce allergens to my baby?

Answer: When your child is developmentally ready (ages 4-6 months) you can begin to introduce solids into their diet. It is important to introduce allergens during these early phases of solids and these include cow’s milk, egg, peanut, tree nut, sesame, fish, soy and wheat. Once your baby has tried these foods and is not showing any signs of allergies, continue to feed these allergens 2-3 times per week to help prevent the development of a food allergy.

Ask the Nurse Practitioner: How much screen time should my young child have?

Answer: For children under the age of 2, screen time is not recommended. For children 2-5, limit it to an hour or less per day. Increased screen time in young kids can increase a child's risk of becoming sleep deprived, overweight, less attentive and near sighted.
