In every gym, there’s a question that cuts through everything else: “How much can you bench?” It doesn’t matter how clean your form is, how long you’ve been training, or how strong you might be in other ways.

✨ We can all relate to that sinking feeling setting in when life doesn’t go as planned. Whether that’s the loss of a job, a health setback, a relationship ending, financial challenges, or a creative roadblock.

💬 While setbacks can leave us feeling unsettled, discouraged, or stuck, they can also be opportunities to learn how to cope with them differently and openings for growth.

📖 We will be exploring some common questions relating to navigating setbacks in life in this blog post: redbirdtherapy.ca/navigating-setbacks-in-life

A huge THANK YOU to Stikeman Elliott LLP for their generous support of the Wema Centre 💛

Their donation of laptops and phones is a total game-changer—opening doors, increasing access, and helping us better support our community. 💻📱✨

We’re so grateful for partners who don’t just believe in the work—but actively help move it forward.

Wema serves up to 150 children at any given time, alongside youth entrepreneurship programs and family support. Inspired by this generosity? Our community is coming together to help raise 5% of Wema’s annual operating budget this year—with 100% of donations going directly to Wema.

If you’re able, any amount makes a difference.

In November, Wema Centre welcomed five new children and successfully reunified one lost girl with her family thanks to the swift efforts of the social work team. Throughout the month, the children remained active through choir practice, new chess lessons, beach outings, and group counselling sessions led by the psychosocial support team.

With schools closed, the education team focused on preparing Pre-primary 2 learners for graduation, and one partner school held its ceremony on November 4th.

Barbara was delighted to be a visiting guest at the graduation. Check out the newsletter for some pictures from the ceremony!

A huge thank you to Stikeman Elliot LLP for their generous support of the Wema Centre!

A New Year’s message from Aanchal Wiswanathan Anand, RP (Qualifying), M.Couns, MSc, BSc:

I’m moved by how deeply meaningful it has been to build the South Asian Services team alongside Barbara Brown and our team members: Arshdeep Bhandal , Carmina Sahota, and Saniya Vohra. ✨

What began as a conversation with the simple hope of creating culturally-responsive and community-centred psychotherapeutic support, has blossomed into something far richer than either of us imagined. 💛

I’ve heard this repeated in conversations with multiple clinicians, community members, and clients over the past year, that there is something inexplicable about being witnessed and understood by someone who “gets” the nuances of your lived experiences and cultural history.

I’m reminded over and over again that the magic lies in the small details ✨ whether that’s getting the rhythm of a name right or recognizing the cultural meaning behind a moment of silence. Those tiny acts of understanding are what make people feel truly seen. 🌿

“One of the unexpected joys of this work has been forming relationships beyond our team: from the incredible clinicians whom I connected with through our first open house, Chai & Connect, to the providers I met through our South Asian Providers Network Alliance (SAPNA). ☕🤝

Getting to know community members who shared their needs with such honesty, providers who approached the work with humility and willingness to learn at our virtual workshops, and partners who stepped forward with genuine collaboration has been an absolute honour. 🌸

A special thank you to Mayil Coffee House for joining us as our community partner, and to the ASAAP for graciously partnering with us on Rangtosav. These relationships have grounded everything we’re building. ❤️

You’ve inspired us and reminded us that the heart of this work lives in the connections we nurture, not the checkboxes we complete. It’s been humbling and energizing to feel the community shaping the direction with us, not just watching from the sidelines. ✨”
