Wrapping up 2025, we are celebrating the 2 year anniversary of our very first NGG RNs! 🎉 Halima, Hiba and Kaitlin joined the FBC team 2 years ago as new graduate RNs. The NGG program provides new graduate nurses in Ontario with temporary full-time employment above staffing complements to support their successful transition into practice with a 6 month training period. All three of them were extremely successful, and have remained permanently with us, now celebrating 2 years, and we are so lucky to have them on the team! Due to their success, FBC has since brought on multiple more NGGs who have all stayed on within the program.
Below they share their favourite things about working in FBC at SMH.

Halima: “The amazing interdisciplinary team, especially the nurses who have taught me so much and continue to mentor me. Also i love being apart of so many deliveries!”

Hiba: “The amazing team at St. Mikes who have taught me everything I know! And the fast multip deliveries ;)”

Kaitlin: “The opportunity to work in different roles - from labour nurse, delivery nurse, baby nurse, postpartum nurse, scrub, and circulating. The diversity of these roles is incredibly rewarding and helps me learn and grow every day!”

Recently, The SMH Women and Children’s Team hosted their annual holiday staff pancake breakfast!🥞 the leadership team uses this as a time to show thanks to the hardworking team members that show up every day, and give so much of themselves to the patients and families. Our team could not function without the dedication of so many frontline staff. Thank you for all that you do! And happy holidays from the SMH team! 🎁

December 1st is World AIDS Day ❤️

Here at St. Michael’s Hospital we are so proud to acknowledge that we have supported pregnant people who are HIV+ for the last 20 years, through our Positive Pregnancy Program. This program is unique in Canada due to its collaborative approach and team who work together to provide the best experience possible. Dr. Yudin leads the team who cares for patients and families affected by HIV. Working together to end stigma, and provide positive birthing experiences, we have successfully cared for over 400 healthy pregnancies and babies!

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) use in pregnancy has not been shown to cause/increase the risk of Autism or other neurobehavioral issues in children. It remains an appropriate medication to use to treat pain and fever in pregnancy.

Happy Father’s Day from ! We especially want to recognize our incredible St. Mike’s dads, dads-to-be and fatherly figures!

We celebrate our first-time fathers— those who held tiny hands for the first time this year, meeting their new babies and their new selves at the very same time. We celebrate our seasoned fathers—those who have been steady through years of growth, showing what it means to love with consistency.

To end off nursing week, we are highlighting Eleana, one of our incredible labor and delivery nurses/team leaders. Thank you for all you do (especially the positive birth experiences and workplace culture you create).

Happy Mother’s Day, especially to all our incredible St. Mike’s mamas and mamas-to-be! We see your incredible strength, resilience, and most of all, your unwavering, unconditional love. Thank you for all that you do, today and always💜

Today we honour and celebrate all mothers, mothers-to-be, guardians, and anyone that shares that relationship of unconditional love and trust.

We know this day can bring on lots of emotions for some- we are also holding close those who find today difficult.

Many of you may recognize Dr. Erica Pascoal, one of our incredible SMH Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery fellows! Sending Dr. Pascoal a very special congratulations, as she celebrates her first Mother’s Day 💜

A precious memory from December 2023—welcoming Elina Rose to the world!

A little from parents Sabrina and Liam about their experience at St. Michael’s:

“From the moment we arrived at St. Mike’s, I felt so calm even though this was our first baby! Everyone was so kind and supportive!

Everything was very organized and smooth, and that was also comforting. I felt confident in my health care team; we really had the most amazing nurses, doctors and even admin staff! During my delivery I’ll never forget how kind, gentle and encouraging the resident was! Truly a great delivery experience and a memory I’ll always cherish as one of the best days of my life!

A bonus was the great breastfeeding class the next day which really made me feel equipped to start my breastfeeding journey! ✨

Thank you St Mike’s, we are forever thankful for the safe delivery and care of our precious baby girl!”
