Kingston Kids Toronto East

Kingston Kids Toronto East Kingston Kids provides social-emotional skill building opportunities in an inclusive and supportive environment for all children.

Themes include: Responsibility, Perseverance, Self-Control, Volume Control/Learning Body Ready, Collaboration/Cooperation, Self-Help/Independance, Emotions/Feelings, etc

We run our classes with no more than 6 children and three therapists. Michelle, Beth and myself have over 20 years experience in the field of autism and other exceptionalities

We have a WhatsApp group for each individual class

that only the parents of those children access. We take pictures of the sessions so that parents can see what their children have been doing

Please note that schools often support and encourage children attending our classes. We find that many children who come to our classes welcome the break from school, the change of scenery, and a safe place to learn skills and push through challenges. If you currently have OAP funding you may use these funds for our social skills classes. Prerequisite skills needed for our social skills classes: intermediate social communication skills so that we can support further conversational and requesting skills, attending skills in order to join group time to discuss social/emotional themes. If you require transportation from your child’s school to us mid-day please let us know. We can provide transportation at $12/one-way if their school is within our pick up boundaries.

Parenting is a beautiful contradiction where we often feel two things at once. We call these "AND" moments.

These challenging moments pull us in all directions, feeling both messy and beautiful, hard and worth it all at the very same time…

And without an understanding of what an "AND" moment is, we are at risk of feeling confused and/or not enough.

Here is a poster you can print and hang to remind yourself to connect these thoughts that sometimes feel like contradictions with an "AND" instead.

These phrases sound small. But stacked together, they send a loud message: Stay safe. Stay clean. Stay quiet. Do it right.

And play shrinks under all that pressure.

Here’s the hard truth:
A lot of what limits children’s play has more to do with our need for control than their actual needs.

We say it’s about safety or structure. But is it really?
Or are we just uneasy with chaos, noise, and not calling the shots?

Letting go of control doesn’t mean letting go of care. It means noticing when our fear is louder than their curiosity. It means asking: Is this about the child, or about me?
