These complications can be sight-threatening, such as diabetic retinopathy and cataracts. 👀

In-depth OCT scans are recommended yearly, as well, to catch early signs of retinopathy and look for any progression.

🐟 As the weather gets colder and the air gets drier, omega-3 supplements can really help with dry eye disease symptoms.

But beware! ‼️Not all omega-3 supplements are made the same!‼️

recommend very specific formulations of omega-3s that have been scientifically studied for dry eye disease itself. These have the purest form of the fatty acids, the correct ratio of EPA vs. DHA, and a higher dosage than most store-bought options. ✔️✔️✔️

Although Halloween contact lenses can be a fun addition to any costume, we highly recommend AGAINST buying them online!

Online contact lenses are often not Health Canada approved, and do not disclose their materials or measurements.

All contact lenses are medical devices and should only be fit by licensed professionals. Poorly fit contacts can lead to sight-threatening eye infections and complications!

This rare condition makes him literally one of a kind — both on the mound and off! ⚾💪

An OCT (optical coherence tomography) scan is included in our comprehensive eye examinations, and is highly recommended to all OHIP covered patients, as well.

🔍 These scans allow the doctors to see changes underneath the surface of the retina, that may not be visible to the naked eye.

👁️ It also helps detect early signs and monitor the progression of eye diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and toxicity from certain oral medications.

👩🏻‍⚕️ All-in-all, it allows the doctors to practice at the highest standard of care to take care of your most important sense!

🚩RED FLAGS🚩

If you notice any of these changes, see your ASAP! It may be the difference between losing and keeping your vision!

✨Flashes/floaters: may be a sign of retinal detachments/tears, which need to be treated ASAP to avoid permanent vision loss.

‼️Red eyes: a symptom of many different eye diseases. They must be diagnosed and treated correctly - most red eyes actually do not need antibiotics, but other treatments!

❌Sudden vision loss: could be swelling in your optic nerve, or a blockage in a retinal blood vessel. May be a sign of medical conditions that need treatment.

🤕Headaches: can be a symptom of many conditions, but if severe/new onset/consistent, a trip to your optometrist is warranted!
