The CareRx Parksville team was featured in the BC Pharmacy Association’s quarterly newsletter, The Tablet, for a study conducted on Vancouver Island assessing the impact of deprescribing potentially inappropriate use of Tramadol, a commonly used narcotic pain medication not covered by government drug plans in British Columbia. The study showed that pharmacist-led intervention in a long-term care setting can dramatically reduce the inappropriate use of tramadol. This allows for a reduction in unnecessary drug costs, may be associated with reduced drug interactions, reduces pharmacy dispensing, and reduces nursing medication administration workload, without negatively impacting pain management.
