Struggling with asthma or respiratory issues? Between wildfire smoke, summer humidity and seasonal allergies, you're not alone!

Luckily, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers herbal remedies that may help ease symptoms and improve lung health. In fact, hundreds of thousands of asthma, allergic or COPD patients benefit from Chinese herbal formulas every year.

Herbs like Fritillaria bulb, Perilla seed, Chinese Skullcap, Pinellia root, Platycodon Root, Schisandra Berry, Gingko seed, and Cordyceps mushroom are among the many we use to support lung function and reduce inflammation.

These herbs may not only help relieve wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath but also address underlying factors such as allergies, phlegm, inflammation and immune imbalances that can trigger respiratory issues.

Call us today for a free consultation at 416-890-7770, or visit Hillgreen.ca to book one online. We look forward to getting you breathing better soon!

Studies have shown that Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can reduce the side effects of breast cancer treatment and improve quality of life. This helps you with recovery indirectly, by encouraging you to stick it out for your entire treatment plan.

But is it true that TCM can DIRECTLY improve your recovery from breast cancer? Can taking Chinese herbs help you live longer after or with breast cancer?

Some researchers have looked at this question and found interesting results. One study, published in the journal Cancer, examined 729 advanced breast cancer patients receiving taxanes. It found that TCM users had a decreased risk of all-cause mortality than non-users. A stronger effect was seen among those who used the TCM for more than 180 days per year.

Among the frequently used Chinese herbs, those found to be most associated with reduced mortality were Bai Hua She She Cao, Ban Zhi Lian, and Huang Qi.The three herbs most associated with breast cancer patients living longer were Bai Hua She She Cao, Ban Zhi Lian, and Huang Qi.

Curious about acupuncture but not sure what to expect? Here’s a step-by-step guide to your first
visit—so you can walk in feeling calm, confident, and ready to relax.

🌿 Step 1: Intake & Conversation

When you arrive, we’ll start with a thoughtful discussion about your health. We’ll ask about:
✔ What’s bringing you in for treatment
✔ Your sleep, digestion, stress levels, and energy
✔ Any past injuries, medical history, and health goals
This helps us understand how your body is functioning as a whole, so we can create a treatment plan just for you.

👅 Step 2: Tongue & Pulse Diagnosis

In Chinese medicine, your tongue and pulse tell a deeper story about what’s going on inside your body. We’ll gently check:

✔ Your tongue’s color, coating, and shape (this reveals circulation, digestion, and more!)
✔ Your pulse at different positions (this shows how energy flows through your body)

🪡 Step 3: Acupuncture Treatment

Now for the most relaxing part! We’ll insert tiny, hair-thin needles at specific points on your body. Most people barely feel them at all! Some even say they feel a little warmth, tingling, or a gentle release of tension.

󰡠 Step 4: Deep Rest & Relaxation

Once the needles are in, you’ll rest for about 20-30 minutes. This is your time to relax, recharge, and let your body shift into deep healing mode. Many people feel a sense of calm, warmth, or even drift into a peaceful nap!

🌞 After the Treatment & The Week Ahead

✔ Right after your session, you may feel light, relaxed, and clear-headed.
✔ Some people notice an energy boost, while others feel extra restful and sleepy.
✔ Over the next week, your body will continue adjusting and responding to the treatment—sometimes with noticeable shifts, sometimes subtly in the background.
✔ Each treatment builds on the last, so expect your symptoms to improve gradually as we progress through your treatment plan. We track your symptoms every week to ensure we are progressing appropriately.

Anxiety isn’t just in your head—it’s in your body too. The racing thoughts, tight chest, restless energy, and sense of unease can make it feel like you’re constantly on edge, always bracing for something.

Anxiety can be sparked by something as big as a cancer diagnosis, or as small as something your co-worker said to you just now. Or for some, anxiety is a constant companion, no matter what's happening.

Maybe you can’t turn your mind off at night, even when you’re exhausted. Maybe you feel jittery, unfocused, or overwhelmed by small things. Maybe your body holds onto anxiety as tight shoulders, a clenched jaw, digestive upset, or a racing heart.

In Chinese medicine, anxiety is a sign that your energy (Qi) is ungrounded—like a tree trying to grow strong without deep roots. When your system is out of balance, your nervous system stays stuck in a constant state of alertness instead of moving through cycles of calm and rest.

Anxiety doesn’t have to just be “the way it is”. Here’s how acupuncture and Chinese Medicine may help anxiety:

* Calms the nervous system – Acupuncture shifts your body out of fight-or-flight mode and into deep relaxation, helping you feel safe, settled, and present.

* Brings Qi back down – When energy is stuck in the upper body (racing thoughts, tension, tight chest), acupuncture grounds it, helping you feel anchored and at ease.

* Supports emotional resilience – Acupuncture helps regulate stress hormones, so you respond to life’s challenges with more clarity and less overwhelm.

* Releases tension stored in the body – Tight muscles, digestive upset, or shallow breathing? Acupuncture unwinds the physical effects of anxiety, so your body can finally relax.

Feeling grounded and resourced is possible. Chinese medicine has been helping people cultivate inner calm for thousands of years—not by suppressing anxiety, but by gently restoring balance so your system knows how to relax naturally.

It’s feeling resourced, resilient, and rooted. And it’s possible for YOU.

If anxiety is making it hard to feel like yourself, acupuncture can help bring you back to center. Call 416-890-7770 or visit hillgreen.ca to book a free consultation. Your nervous system deserves some support!

Repost from . In 2023, the Society for Integrative Oncology and American Society Clinical Oncology released guidelines on using integrative therapies to treat aromatase inhibitor-related joint pain. SIO created a simple image summarizing the key message of the guidelines. Acupuncture and yoga can help reduce achy joints caused by breast cancer anti-hormonal treatment and improve quality of life and cancer outcomes. Please share and repost freely!

We just published a paper in the Annals of Palliative Medicine, a collaboration with amazing colleagues at and !

The journal article is a brief review of research into the role integrative medicine (e.g. acupuncture, diet, exercise, supplements, massage, yoga, meditation, etc.) can play in supporting breast cancer survivors.

Our research showed evidence that acupuncture can help with joint pain (such as from letrozole, anastrazole, and other hormone therapies), hot flashes, night sweats, neuropathic pain, fatigue, anxiety, and depression.

The paper also includes dietary and exercise suggestions based on the research. To read it, click here: https://apm.amegroups.org/article/view/138691/html
