Yesterday, while the city of Toronto and our beautiful Temple were being covered by the first snow of the season, KMCC was thrilling with activities from morning to night!❄️☃️🤍

The morning started with the 9:30am Prayers for World Peace, which are free for everyone to attend. Then at 11am, Gen Chodor gave an inspiring Sunday class to about 40 people on the Art of Meditation.🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️

Many people stayed after the class to enjoy refreshments and animated discussions downstairs!😊

At 1pm, Jordana, a sincere and incredibly kind volunteer here at the Temple, gave a 2h long workshop on First Aid Training entitled “Compassion in Action”. This was the start of a series of very practical and empowering workshops on safety training. More to come so stay tuned for the next one!!

Then, from 3 to 7pm, the students of the Teacher Training Program had their usual Sunday classes which started with an extensive discussion on the profound subject of the practice of Exchanging Self with Others following the chapter on Concentration from Meaningful to Behold, the first book written by Venerable Geshe Kelsang.

A truly wonderful way to spend a snowy Sunday at KMC Canada!😍❄️

This past Saturday, Nov 1st, on International Temples day, we had a very inspiring “Team Building Workshop” held at the Temple with 35 participants!

Titled “Join the Vision”, we focused on the precious words of Venerable Geshe-la:

“We work together with one mind, one direction, one path, one dedication.”

After watching the special 2025 ITP video in the meditation room, the managers continued by introducing some particular priorities related to the development of our Temple and community. Everyone then divided into smaller groups and each group discussed a particular priority, brainstorming thoughts and trying to come up with creative and practical ideas.

After this, each group chose a spokesperson who then presented their ideas, comments and propositions to everyone.

Filled with inspiration and great ideas, this beautiful afternoon really made us feel how we truly are working together with one mind, one direction, one path, one dedication!🙏

A very warm and sincere thank you to everyone who joined in for this wonderful event!!💖

A joyful evening began with a delicious potluck supper, as the sangha gathered together in full festive spirit, each person dressed for the occasion. No one arrived with a mundane mind! Alongside the usual skeletons, we had a turtle with a golden yoke, a delusions-eater, a chip-monk you could always count on, and one with special clarity-seeing glasses.

Under Gen Chodor’s guidance, we reflected through meditation that, like actors in costume, we move through life contemplating its impermanence -and contemplating that the “I” we normally see does not truly exist.

The evening came to a close with a touching tribute to Kelsang Rigma, whose dedication and energy have greatly enriched our community. We send her our warmest wishes for continued inspiration and boundless energy in her work at Jampa Ling Centre in Barrie.

Today we celebrate the International Temples Project (ITP) Day, or Temples Day!

35 years ago Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso (Geshe-la) visited Toronto for the first time and began to sow seeds for Kadam Dharma to flourish in Canada. Regular meditation classes began in 1993 when Gen Kelsang Tharchin, our first Resident Teacher, arrived in Toronto.

And just look at where we are now! Thanks to the International Temples Project we have an extraordinary City Temple with nearly 5000 people on our email list, close to 100 monthly members, approximately 50 volunteers, and almost 20 teachers contributing to our packed program which regularly serves hundreds of people in the GTA with the methods for developing authentic inner peace and happiness.

Temples Day is celebrated annually on this day, the first Saturday in November. The day reflects on the founding of the project by Venerable Geshe-la and its role in making Kadam Dharma, the Buddhist path of wisdom and compassion, accessible to people everywhere. Every time we enjoy our Temple on Crawford Street we are direct beneficiaries of the ITP. How fortunate we are!

Please enjoy this beautiful and inspiring video on this special day of rejoicing!🙂💖

The Fall Festival, held from October 3rd to 9th at the Kadampa Grand Canyon International Retreat Center, brought together participants from 32 countries in person and from more than 40 countries online, all sincerely wishing to receive the transmission of blessings of Dorje Shugden and the teachings.

The dedicated organizers began months in advance to make the site more attractive and to ensure that the rooms, areas, and spaces were fully functional. They invited resident teachers and some practitioners to come work on-site from April through August. Braving the heat, they painted walls, cleaned windows, repaired furniture, improved certain facilities, did some gilding work, and more.

A few weeks before the festival, volunteers joyfully helped set up the rooms, zones, and spaces. In no time, the beautiful meditation hall, various types of accommodations, and spaces like the campground, as well as the shop, registration desk, and information kiosk, were ready to welcome the happy participants.

On the opening day of the festival, gratitude filled the hearts of practioners who arrived at the site by shuttle, taxi, or their own vehicles. They all received their passes and meal tickets for lunch and dinner.

Throughout the festival, a security system ensured everyone’s safety 24/7. Between sessions, many people willingly offered their time to ensure, among other things, that the sound system functioned properly and that all rooms, zones, and spaces remained in working order.

Thanks to their devotion and service, everyone was able to receive beautiful teachings, make purchases, enjoy meals and refreshments, and connect with others on the terraces or in dining halls—all in complete safety.

Although the festival has come to an end, some fortunate practitioners will go on a post-festival retreat, while others will help with the takedown or return to their center. In all cases, the precious jewels will continue to grow in the minds of sincere practitioners, eventually transforming into spontaneous realizations. They will also hold the wish to take part in the next International Festival in the spring.

On the quiet and serene grounds of University College, part of the University of Toronto, Kadampa Meditation Center Canada held a public talk on Wednesday, October 1, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

By 5:30 p.m., thanks to those who had loaded the van, we arrived at the venue. Many helping hands were available to set up the room, display the books, and arrange the registration areas. We even prepared two urns of tea and set out packaged cookies on a table to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Over 30 newcomers—out of just over 50 attendees—came to listen to Gen Chodor’s insightful and well-balanced teachings on compassion and wisdom. He explained how to generate compassion by contemplating, for example, the many ways animals suffer. He also encouraged us to do five minutes of breathing meditation each day, followed by five minutes of meditation on compassion.

Gen Chodor then clearly explained that minds such as patience, love, and compassion are wisdom minds. He added that if we do not follow deluded minds, such as irritation, they will dissolve back into the clarity of our mind. To help us gain—even briefly—a glimpse of this clarity, he guided us through the "silent watcher" meditation.

After the talk, some attendees stayed to ask questions, enjoy the refreshments, and purchase books. Within 45 minutes, uplifted by the sense that the audience had truly appreciated the presentation, we had reloaded the van and returned to the temple to put everything away.

"The torma offering is a special offering of food made to the in-front-generated Deities with the request that they bestow upon us special siddhis, or attainments." Essence of Vajrayana, p. 311, 2nd edition.

On Saturday, September 27th, Kadampa Meditation Center Canada held a special workshop from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on how to make an offering torma. The number of participants allowed for not only group instruction but also individual guidance from our knowledgeable instructor, Eng. Although some attendees had no prior experience working with marzipan, they showed remarkable skill, and everyone succeeded in completing their tormas in a very blessed and joyful atmosphere.

Later that same day, we had the opportunity to offer one of the tormas during the scheduled tsog offering puja, Wishfulfilling Jewel, held from 2:30 PM to 3:40 PM. Following the beautiful puja, we were fortunate to receive further instructions on how to make the five tormas traditionally offered during the Melodious Drum tsog puja. Once again, a small but dedicated team took on the task, and we were able to complete the tormas successfully within a few hours.

Two days later, on Monday, September 29th, we offered the five tormas during the Melodious Drum tsog puja, which lasted for three hours and forty-five minutes.

In a few weeks, there will be an opportunity to craft many more tormas to replace those that were offered during each Melodious Drum for the past year. How wonderful!
