Meet Monica: Business owner and now, fitness enthusiast😏

When I first talked to Monica, she told me she felt super busy, stressed, and overwhelmed🗯

Gratitude is the wine of the soul…

Go on, get drunk!

It’s easy to focus on negativity in our surroundings. We are biologically programmed that way. It served us when we lived in caves and trees to maintain vigilance and stay alive.

But now, those threats are virtually gone… but our programming hasn’t changed. So you have to be an active participant when focusing on the things you are grateful to have in your life.

If you are struggling to think of anything to be grateful for, allow me to offer a few suggestions to get you started:

💦 You can fill your water bottle with clean water from your kitchen sink.�👕 You are wearing clothes (unless you’re a nudist, more power to you my friend)�🏠 You have a roof that keeps you dry.�🥓 You had breakfast. (Unless you’re fasting which means you chose not to eat)�♥️ You have someone who loves you( )�👨‍💻 You have access to the biggest information collection known to man, the internet.�💪 You are trying to better yourself (if you follow me, I assume you have goals for yourself)

The list can go on and on.

Hot damn! When you really stop to think about it, you are dominating life.

Of course there is always room for improvement but it’s important to remember the good s**t in your life.

Want to crush it at the gym and love life for the next 20, 30, even 40 years?

Pay close attention. This is how you do it.

#1 - ALWAYS CHASE A GOAL or TARGET
Not having a clearly defined goal is a huge mistake. Working towards a new goal often acts as a new stimulus on the body. Different targets give you the chance to succeed in a new area and the challenge will help you with long-term motivation and confidence.

To keep the eternal flame blazin, look for new challenges and new goals. Once you reach it, re-focus and find a new challenge.

#2 - ALWAYS BE LEARNING
Humans are innately curious creatures. We have something called “epistemic curiosity”. This is our love of knowledge and desire to learn new things. In fact, our brain views knowledge as a pleasurable experience with the reward being a lesson learned.

Whether you’re adding an additional exercise to your current training, using a twist on a classic exercise, or adopting an entirely new training style, changing or upgrading your training can result in a positive response that will keep you fired up to keep going back to the gym for years to come.

#3 - INVEST EFFORT INTO RECOVERY

Training is stress, it's that simple.

It's important to focus on keeping the body in a parasympathetic (relaxed) state to help recovery, hormonal balance, and a general sense of well being. Basically, you need balance – counters to all that stress.

#4 - DON’T BE A 'LONE' WOLF
If you’re struggling with focus and motivation, a simple solution is to look for a training buddy or a fitness community. The right partner or group can immediately and dramatically create a positive response in initial drive and motivation, and keep you accountable.

#5 - APPRECIATE THY GYM

First, we should all be grateful that we live in a society that easily grants access to the gym of your choice. Many people don't have that privilege.

Second, remember that the gym can be your sanctuary – your place to forget, your place to switch off from the world, your rehab from your s**tty day, your antidepressant, your place to right wrongs and to positively change your mindset.

The scale will play tricks on you! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The good news is the scale is just one of many tools for tracking progress. If you're getting s**t done at the gym and not seeing any progress on the scale, try one of these other methods for tracking progress:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Take week progress pics for comparison week by week⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Record your waist circumference with measuring tape every 2 weeks⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Rate your mood from 1-5 on a daily basis⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Try on old clothing⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Retest benchmark lifts⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Get a dexa scan⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Use calipers to test skinfolds⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The point is you don't need a scale. Enjoy the process and celebrate the wins!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
