Last month, we were proud to celebrate the incredible artistic journey of our talented resident, Mary Anne Miller. A lifelong painter inspired by her family’s creative roots, Mary Anne has beautifully explored the art of watercolour and acrylic throughout her life.

At The Russell Hill, we love showcasing our residents’ remarkable talents and the unique stories behind their work, and Mary Anne’s exhibit was a wonderful reflection of the creativity and spirit within our community.

As we welcome the season of giving, our residents and management team collaborated on a meaningful initiative in support of Operation Christmas Child. Together, we assembled boxes filled with essential items, school supplies, and gifts that will be distributed to children in need around the world.
We are proud to be part of a community that continues to demonstrate generosity, compassion, and a commitment to giving back.

Yesterday, our residents, joined by a few of our wonderful staff, enjoyed a beautiful outing to Allan Gardens Conservatory, one of Toronto’s oldest botanical landmarks.

Fun fact: it has been welcoming visitors since 1858, making it one of the city’s longest-standing green spaces!

A lovely day of warmth, greenery, and connection

Lest We Forget.

Today, on Remembrance Day, we honour the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of all veterans. At The Russell Hill Retirement Residence, we are especially proud to recognize two remarkable women who served during World War II: Jean, a member of the Canadian Red Cross Voluntary Aid Division, and Joyce, who served in the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service.

While many may not know of the pivotal role women played during the war, their contributions were invaluable—from providing medical care to supporting military operations on the home front. Women like Jean and Joyce were instrumental in ensuring that our country remained strong during such a challenging time.

We are forever grateful to them and to all veterans who have served to protect our freedom. Their bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
