The learning continues as an Acupuncturist. This past weekend we focused on the lower extremities. How to assess, desensitize, and reset muscles in the lower body - to provide pain relief and allow old injuries to heal instead of causing imbalances.

Very grateful to partake in this 4-day Neuro-Meridian Acupuncture workshop with 23 other acupuncturists from North America. Dr. Poney Chiang of shared his decades of research, experience, and wisdom with us and a visit to the cadaver lab was the cherry on top! Hopefully, I can help more clients with my new knowledge and experience.

As some of you know, I turned 50 this year and in my perimenopause phase...

Life and work got busy this year and I've slacked with my body. My muscles are flabby, less toned, weaker... My gym membership feels neglected 😂

Goals: 🎯
👉 Strengthen my body
👉 Maintain my flexibility and mobility
👉 Lose a bit of weight (say 5 to 10 lbs)
👉 Book in more self-care time (weekly rest and fun)
👉 Find my Work-Life balance (forever project)

Plan: 📝
👉 Record my baseline - blood test
👉 Reduce intake of refined sugars (bubble tea and desserts) 😢
👉 Move more - especially on work days

Summer Read reco... The First Forty Days: The Essential Art of Nourishing the New Mother.

While speaking with some American colleagues recently, I was introduced to this book that's full of recipes and TCM based ideas for postpartum mothers. is written based on lived experiences by women (uterus owners) for women (uterus owners).

The fourth trimester is an important phase of self care. If you don't have a village post birth and you have the space, get a deep freezer, do lots of food prep and freeze lots of yummy goodness, so you can nourish yourself after birth.

If your child/children are full grown, it's never too late to incorporate some of these practices. If you've never given birth but we've spoken about blood or yin deficiencies, read up. This includes people (including non-uterus owners) who have some form of anemia or iron deficiencies. 😉

If you've worked with me in clinic, we've probably spoken about food therapy and maybe I've made some food and lifestyle suggestions. There's recipes in this book that's applicable not just to new mothers but anyone who need to replenish themselves with nutrient dense nourishment.

I've shared some screenshot excerpts from the book here and maybe you'll be intrigued enough to buy a copy for yourself or if you're in Toronto, the Toronto Public Library has digital copy for loan on the Libby app.
