Spent this afternoon at my alma mater chatting with young minds in the grade 12 kinesiology class about their future and what kind of possibilities await them as they move on to university and beyond. It was also lovely to catch up with some of my teachers!

October 1st means there’s only 3 months left in 2021 😳

That also means your benefits likely expire at the end of the year. Make sure you use those health care dollars you pay for before we roll over to the next year and you lose them! Check your coverage and see what you need to use up before the end of the year!

As a chiropractor, I’m not used to spending time on a computer. However, now that I’m back at school, I figured I better practice what I preach to my patients.

Like many of you, I don’t have a proper office with a desk so I’m making do at my dining table. Here is my ergonomic set up to help prevent neck pain, wrist pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, low back pain, etc…

I have my laptop lifted up on a stand so the top of the screen is at my forehead level and I have an external keyboard and mouse set up so I can keep my shoulders relaxed and my wrists and elbows at 90 degrees. Luckily my dining chairs have decent support in the back but some days I’ll roll a small towel in behind my low back for some extra support when needed. Lastly, I make sure my feet are flat on the floor.

Having said all this, the most important thing is that I move and change positions often. My two favourite mantras are: ‘motion is lotion’ and ‘your best posture is your next posture’ and they both definitely apply here.

Any questions? Need ergonomic advice? Getting pain while still stuck working from home? I can help with that! Get in touch and we can get you moving and feeling better in no time!

Your kids aren’t the only ones returning to school this week! I’m excited to say that I’m heading back to the books this year to add some extra knowledge and skill to my repertoire.

In a year, along with my BSc and DC, I’ll be able to add a Masters degree to the end of my name. I am returning to my alma mater to begin a Masters of Clinical Science in Interprofessional Pain Management.

I am so excited to learn from and with my new colleagues in the program to gain more comprehensive knowledge on chronic and persistent pain syndromes and how to even better collaborate with different professionals to assist my patients in getting the best outcomes possible.

It’s part time and online so I will be able to continue practicing and treating my patients in the meantime!
