✨ Introducing Our Staff Spotlights ✨

Each month, we’ll be proudly highlighting 3 incredible team members who help make Humber Meadows such a special place to call home. Their spotlight posters will be displayed in our elevators throughout the month and featured on our social media pages as we celebrate the dedication, compassion, and hard work of our staff.

We’re excited to kick off our very first spotlight with Beata U., Registered Nurse, who has been part of Humber Meadows since opening day! 👏

We asked Beata: “What do you like most about working at Humber Meadows?”

“What I value most about working at Humber Meadows Long-Term Care is the strong commitment to compassionate, resident-centered care. The environment is thoughtfully designed to feel like a home rather than a facility, fostering meaningful relationships with residents and their families while enhancing overall quality of life.

Although we began as a new facility, our hardworking and dedicated team quickly came together with a shared goal of providing high-quality care. This strong sense of unity and collaboration makes me proud to be part of the team.

The recognition, support, and encouragement from management have further strengthened my passion for nursing. I am especially grateful for the appreciation shown by my colleagues, residents’ families, and leadership team, which contributed to my receiving the Leadership in Nursing Award in 2025.”

Happy National Therapy Pet Day 🐾

Today we’re celebrating the incredible impact therapy animals have in our home—and we’re so lucky to have one of our very own! Please join us in showing some extra love to Pearl (and her owner Diane) from St. John’s Therapy Dogs, who visits us every Sunday bringing comfort, smiles, and companionship to our residents. If you see them around, be sure to say hello!

Their Biography
“I have always wanted to volunteer and give back to the community and was never sure how to do that. After the passing of my grandmother, I got my very first pet, Pearl. Pearl is spunky, snuggly and very in tune to human emotions, especially mine.
Pearl has always had a connection to people and brings joy to everyone she meets. So it wasn’t long before we decided to start our preparation for therapy dog work. Pearl and I spend a lot of time going on day trips when the weather is nice and I enjoy continuing to train her on new tricks. Pearl is a novice trick champion! I work full time and in my spare time aside from all the things I do with Pearl, I enjoy reading, spending time with family and friends and watching old movies. Pearl turned five on April 6th!
We are so happy to spread some joy every week at Humber Meadows!” 🐶✨

Our residents were treated to an afternoon of movement, music, and joy as talented performers brought passion and elegance into our home. Moments like these remind us how powerful dance can be — sparking memories, encouraging connection, and filling the room with smiles.

Earlier this week, our Recreation Team began training with Rendever as we prepare to bring virtual reality into our home. We couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead!

Through VR, our residents will have the opportunity to explore the world in new and meaningful ways. It’ll be about revisiting familiar places, traveling somewhere they’ve always dreamed of, or experiencing something completely new. Beyond the fun, virtual reality can support cognitive stimulation, spark conversation and reminiscence, reduce feelings of isolation, and enhance overall well-being.

We’re looking forward to the moments of joy, connection, and discovery this new technology will bring to our home 💙

Earlier this week Humber Meadows was excited to have one of our own BPSO leads invited to be a mentor for the new orientation launch, sharing our experience/knowledge while welcoming so many new organizations starting their journey! This exciting event was an early celebration of our journey as we prepare to get our designation this spring.

It was truly amazing to see the largest cohort yet of 31 organizations begin their journey to becoming a best practice spotlight organization, include 13 long-term care homes! This program enforces the importance of implementing best-practice guidelines into every day practice to better prepare all staff to provide the highest level of care.

Thank you to the for inviting us to take part and welcome cohort M to the LTC BPSO network!
