Aliza Zaman Needs a Living Liver Donor Aliza needs a living liver donor with blood type O+ or O- to donate in Toronto.

This Storytelling Saturday, we hear an update about baby Aliza. After her family posted a campaign to social media about her need for a living liver donor, Aliza received the gift of life- a new liver from a stranger!

In a Facebook statement they said “For someone to donate their liver so selflessly to save Aliza’s life is a miraculous gift. Thank you on behalf of Aliza and our entire family. Aliza now has a chance to thrive in life by learning to walk, play, and talk. Our family is grateful to still have her here with us, especially her older sister, who is also her best friend. Their bond can continue to flourish as they will now get to grow up and experience life together. To the incredible donor who saved Aliza, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and pray you have a smooth recovery.”

We wanted to take this opportunity to inform everyone that baby Aliza recently found a donor match and underwent her life-saving liver transplant. Her surgery was successful, and she now feels much better as she recovers in the hospital. We can see how much happier Aliza is no longer suffering from such a debilitating disease. Her smile is bigger and brighter than ever, she is eager to play and interact with her surroundings, and she is now more vibrant.

Our family is extremely grateful to the angel who became Aliza’s liver donor. When the transplant team told us that an anonymous donor had been identified, it seemed like a fairy tale. We told them that the donor must be an angel, and angels are not easy to find. For someone to donate their liver so selflessly to save Aliza’s life is a miraculous gift.

To the incredible donor who saved Aliza, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and pray you have a smooth recovery.

Happy New Year! Baby Aliza continues to search for a donor match as she struggles with Biliary Atresia. Currently, Aliza is still living in the hospital and traveling home for a few hours once a week. Recently, she has started to show that she is getting bored more quickly, so we take her on walks every day in the hospital. Since Aliza is vulnerable to many different viruses, we try to do these walks at the least busy time, at night after 6pm.
When Aliza gets to go home, she is thrilled. She is getting more active now too, so she can’t sit in one place for more than 2 minutes! However, when she's in the hospital it becomes even more challenging for Aliza as she acts out, eagerly wanting to go home and be with her sister.
On the bright side, it has been such a joyous occasion to watch Aliza as she tries and learns how to crawl with support. Thank you to everyone for the ongoing prayers and best wishes! Please help us continue to find a donor for Aliza by sharing her story.

Aliza continues to grow well with the TPN (IV nutrition) and is considered to be in a “stable” condition for her liver disease. As a result, the doctor has now given the family permission to go home for a few hours a week to allow Aliza some family time. This was a gift as Aliza got to go home for her sister’s birthday after not being home for 2 months straight. Even though her visit was only 2 hours the entire family was so happy to be together. Aliza is still unwell and in desperate need of a liver transplant. To everyone who submitted an application to become her donor, thank you so much for your willingness to help our baby girl. Unfortunately, we have not found the right person with O+ or O- blood type yet to donate a piece of their liver to Aliza. We are still searching for the right match within Canada. We ask that everyone keep Aliza in their thoughts and prayers through this difficult time. Aliza is a strong baby. She has the biggest smile when talking to others. She loves everyone and we love her too. So, please share this post to support Aliza in her search for a living liver donor with O+ or O- blood type.
Thank You.

As mentioned in our last post, Aliza has cold/cough symptoms which turned out to be RSV. RSV is an intense and tough respiratory virus to fight especially as a newborn. She has been under isolation precautions stuck in her hospital room with only myself and the TV to pass the time during the day. Recently, she enjoys watching a show called “Cocomelon”. Aliza’s doctors always comment on how she is a “fighter”, impressed with her ability to push through this virus. Now, Aliza is on an upward trend to recovering from her cold and we are hoping she will be off isolation by the end of the month.
On a separate note, Aliza just turned 7 months old and said her first word, “Baba”! We were so excited to see and hear Aliza continuing to grow and hit her baby milestones even though she is very sick. However, as a family, we still worry about the time that passes day by day as we watch Aliza continue to get sicker and sicker from her liver. All of the potential donors that have already been tested are not a match for Baby Aliza. We are still searching and praying for the right one. Please help Aliza by sharing this post to spread the word that our family is still looking for an O+/- donor to come forward for Aliza to save her life. As always, our family and Aliza thank everyone for their ongoing support and prayers during this difficult time.

Update:
Aliza has been fighting a cold, cough, and nasal congestion for more than a month, making it harder to take care of her. As a family, we hope and pray she will recover from this setback and feel better soon. On the bright side, the physiotherapists said how impressed they were to see how hard Aliza is trying to sit up on her own and do some activities despite having difficulty breathing. You can see her curiosity shine when she is sitting because she is driven to touch everything in front of her no matter how far away. She has some trouble reaching and bending for objects right now because her tummy is getting bigger with fluid from her liver's inability to filter it out properly.
Aside from her cold and nutritional needs, Aliza is still determined to make it through this horrible liver disease. We are patiently waiting for her donor match to be found soon. In the meantime, Aliza is keeping happy with her love for music and games. Her favourite toy is the keyboard and she loves to play peekaboo. Aliza is also a very social baby. She started to make bubbles and movements with her tongue in an attempt to converse with us.
She is so passionate and welcoming of this life she has been given, which is why it is so hard to watch her deteriorate. As her family, we support and love Aliza as much as we can. We try to be present and give her lots of hugs and kisses. However, this is not enough anymore. Aliza needs an angel to help her now. An angel that can donate a part of their liver to her. An angel that can save our baby girl. For everyone reading this, thank you for the ongoing support and prayers. We ask that everyone please help us share this post and continue praying for Aliza.

Thank you

*Update*
Hello Everyone,

On behalf of Aliza and her family, we wanted to thank everyone for the ongoing support in Aliza’s search for a living liver donor with blood type O+ or O-. We wanted to update you all on Aliza and her health journey as it progresses:

This past thanksgiving weekend, Aliza was and is still in the hospital. Luckily, we got special permission to bring Aliza’s sister to visit so we could spend the holiday together as a family. We took this opportunity to celebrate Aliza’s 6-month mark a few days early. We got her a cake, which she was excited to smash in a playful way. Then, Aliza’s sister read her stories from a children’s book and they ended the night watching TV. Watching the two, I am continuously reminded of how grateful I am for my loving family and the valuable time we have had to connect with one another.
As parents, it's difficult to see your newborn baby girl kept alive off machines. Aliza is now in this position where she can no longer live outside the hospital and must be connected to supportive care machines. Originally, Aliza had an NG tube so she could be fed, gaining the nutrients she lacks. Despite running a feed every 3 hours, Aliza was still not growing. Therefore, we’ve had to resort to TPN feeds, which is nutrition through an IV. Due to the high risk of infection through that line, Aliza can no longer leave the hospital until she is transplanted and no longer needs nutritional support. It is devastating and frustrating to be unable to help our child in a time of need after all parents are meant to protect their children. We fear that with every passing day, her liver gets worse, acting as a constant reminder that we are running out of time.
However, as a family, we live and fight for Aliza together, day by day. We believe, hope, and pray that Aliza’s angel will come forward to give the gift of lifesaving my little girl from pain and suffering. We remind ourselves to look to a bright future where Aliza is present with us and be able to live in this country like every other child here. We want to see her playing in the playground with friends, going to school, and eating without a tube. We strive to preserve her precious smile and laugh.
For anyone willing please help spread the word for Aliza by sharing her page or posts. If you wish to help by donating, the application health history form is included in the original post on this page! Thank you for your ongoing support and prayers. We greatly appreciate them.

Many thanks!
- Aliza and her Family
