Hi ! My name is J, I use they/them pronouns and I am a full spectrum doula in Tkaronto.

Starting this social media page was a huge feat on its own last year, and since then I haven’t felt called to it until now. What I have felt called to has been a lot of community and care work, which is where I have been. Doing doula work, community care work, continuing my learning, facilitating prenatal workshops and filling up my own cups as well.

Reflecting back in the last year and a half of supporting folks as a doula came with a learning curves, tears, tenderness, advocacy moments and so much more.

MY. HEART. IS. FULL. Y'ALL!

I can't wait to share some of the things with you here!

🥥Dai or Daimas are as old as time. But definition of a dai has gone through transformations as time and colonization spread throughout the world. Dai's were essentially the ones called when someone gave birth, they always had one or two apprentices with them who will be learning and taking over as a dai once that dai retired. Being in the west, I have only learned about dai's through my family-- there is very little written about them.

🍍So why dai? When I first told my mom that I was training to be a doula, we were both caught in silence in both of our respecting grasp of Bangla. I tried to give her examples of what a doula does and she listened. She perked up " OH tumi daima hoba?" she was excited that she understood for me to a daima. I tried again, not exactly but some version of this.

🍄So, as I bring on formal training as lineage training on how to support folks through any transformational experiences I hope I can honor my dai ancestors by bringing some of their teaching mixed in with present teachings to those folks. Thus Daima was born (no pun intended)
