My health is a work in progress.
I am grateful that I was feeling energetic and pain free for my ski trip this past Friday.
However, over the past couple of days I have been experiencing what I describe as arthritic pain in my hands along with the associated swelling and stiffness that goes along with it. My shoulders and left arm feel tight and constricted with limited mobility. This happens intermittently and I have faith that it’s only temporary but it limits my actions for awhile.
I believe that it’s my body’s way of communicating with me to tell me to slow down and pause.
My personal strategy to feel better is to go back to BASELINE.
Although I am in denial sometimes, I discovered that when I eat too many nightshade vegetables that I tend to experience joint pain. Well, this past week, I made a main dish with tomatoes 🍅 that I enjoyed eating throughout the week. Once again, the joint pain flared up. 😔 Sometimes it occurs in my knees or hands, other times in my jaw.
Although not in the majority, intolerance to nightshades is not uncommon. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321745
My body’s own detoxification capacity gets overwhelmed sometimes so I need to remind myself to listen and pay attention.
So for starters:
1. I’m am preparing simple, anti-inflammatory meals for myself this week that are nutrient dense and free from my personal suspect allergens and intolerances.
2. I am also focusing on gentle movement and lymphatic support.
3. I will continue to follow my nighttime routine for sufficient and restful sleep.
4. I am taking the time to pause and be still more often.
Once I’m feeling myself again (usually in a day or two), I will get back to maintenance mode.
I hope you find this reassuring, and if you’d like support to discover and implement your personal self-care plan, please reach out.
