Last week, we said goodbye to someone who has been so much more than just staff to us. 💛

Taty… an incredible CYCP, a steady presence, and someone who truly gets the work.
She didn’t just show up—she felt the room.
She built safety before anything else.
She sat beside, not across.
And in those everyday, in-between moments… she made a lasting impact.

You could see it in the way members responded to her.
The trust. The laughter. The small wins that turned into big ones.

That’s not something you can teach—that’s who she is.
Somewhere along the way, without even needing a moment to mark it…
she earned her CYCP utility belt 🛠️

And anyone who worked alongside her knows exactly what that means.

Taty, thank you for the care, the consistency, and the heart you brought into this space every single day.

You’ve left your mark here—and it won’t be forgotten.
We’re so proud of you and everything ahead. This isn’t goodbye… just see you later.

Three years ago today, on December 1st, I opened the doors to Got Your Back (GYB) with nothing but a dream, a borrowed key, and a belief that young adults with disabilities deserve a place where they are seen, celebrated, and supported. I had no idea how deeply this community would shape me.

To our members—past and present—you are the soul of GYB. Every laugh, challenge, and breakthrough reminds me why this work matters. Thank you for trusting us with your brilliance.

To our GYB families, your faith and encouragement have carried us. Thank you for believing in this little dream that became a second home.

To every intern who has come and gone—thank you for your energy and heart. And to those who stayed… you helped turn a program into a community.

To my unforgettable staff:
Tay—an extraordinary CYCP, a fierce advocate, my partner in this work (and sometimes my boss). GYB would not be GYB without you.
David—my brother and anchor. Your care goes far beyond the role. You’ve lifted me up more times than you know.
Mitch—from intern to staff, you keep shining. Your warmth and quiet leadership make GYB stronger every day.

To my sister Deb—there on Day One, through every high and low. I couldn’t have done this without you.

To my mom—thank you for loving me through every version of this journey, through the long nights and sacrifices. Your support made space for GYB to grow.

To my friends—thank you for forgiving missed events and cancelled plans. You understood I was building something meaningful.

And to Nicole, in heaven… your spirit is stitched into every corner of this place. You inspired the heart behind GYB and the heart behind me. I hope you’re proud of what your light helped create.

Today, we honour the survivors of residential schools, their families, and the generations who continue to feel the impacts of these injustices. We also remember the children who never made it home.

At Got Your Back (GYB), we commit to listening, learning, and standing in solidarity with Indigenous communities. Truth and reconciliation is not a single day—it’s an ongoing journey of reflection, education, and action.

We encourage our community to take time today to learn more, engage in conversation, and support Indigenous-led healing and justice initiatives.
