A recent study concluded: β€œWhen used in the acute setting, (manipulation) significantly decreased concussion symptom number and severity. This study demonstrates that manipulation is safe and effective in the management of new-onset symptoms of uncomplicated concussions."

Here are our top tips for acute concussions:

βœ”οΈWhen in doubt, seek immediate medical attention.
βœ”οΈIf you do not need hospitalization and you are allowed to return home, you should have a responsible attendant stay with you for the first 24 hours.
βœ”οΈYou should sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first 24 hours.
βœ”οΈYou should drink only clear fluids for the first 8-12 hours.
βœ”οΈ Avoid alcohol, sedatives, sleeping pills, aspirin, and Ibuprofen unless your medical physician has directed otherwise.
βœ”οΈAfter 8-12 hours, you may begin with light meals and progress to a normal diet over the next day.
βœ”οΈYou should avoid unnecessary physical and mental activity for the first 24 hours.
βœ”οΈCall our office, as new research has found that manipulation can potentially improve concussion symptoms.

A large review of more than 5000 acute low back pain patients concluded:

"NSAIDs seemed slightly more effective than placebo for short-term pain reduction, disability, and global improvement, but the magnitude of the effects is small and probably not clinically relevant."

Keep Those Joints Moving! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

In the past, treatment of acute injuries, like sprains and strains, employed the acronym RICE:
βœ”οΈ Rest
βœ”οΈ Ice
βœ”οΈ Compression
βœ”οΈ Elevation

Now, some of these recommendations are under question...

A new study on early compression concluded:
β€œWe could not demonstrate either a beneficial or harmful effect from the application of a compression or elastic bandage.”

And many studies have found that early mobility is better than rest or immobilization of many injuries. (When’s the last time you saw a foam neck collar?) πŸ€”

Yes, the new standard of care for many conditions is to keep joints moving. And that’s exactly why so many studies support chiropractic care! πŸ‘

Non-Surgical Solutions To Back Pain And Sciatica

A new study of chronic low back pain and sciatica patients compared surgical outcomes to conservative rehabilitation. πŸ‘‡

The study found that those undergoing surgery had 18 times greater risk of spinal degeneration afterwards. Additionally, follow-up surgery was required in 6% of the prior surgery group, however, 0% of those undergoing conservative rehab required surgery.

Try the conservative route first! Learn more about non-surgical solutions for back pain and sciatica by watching the video below! ▢️
