It was a blessing for Greek Orthodox Funeral Services to attend the Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where we honoured the devoted efforts of the Φιλόπτωχος Αδελφότης and expressed our appreciation to the clergy for their faithful service.

We were also privileged to join in celebrating the 90th birthday of our beloved Shepherd, His Eminence Archbishop Sotirios.

The event was beautifully attended, filled with faith, fellowship, and joy. The meal was wonderful, and the spirit of community was truly uplifting.

May Saint Philothei continue to inspire us to serve with compassion and generosity. 🙏

The Savano is a traditional white burial shroud in the Greek Orthodox faith. It symbolizes purity, humility, and our belief in the Resurrection. Just as we are clothed in white at Baptism, we are clothed in white at the end of life, expressing our hope in eternal life with Christ.”
At the conclusion of the Funeral Service, the Priest reverently places the Savano (Burial Shroud) over your loved one, offering the final prayers of the Church and completing the sacred act of committal, entrusting them to God’s eternal care.

KANELLOPOULOS Fotini “Fotoula”

Fotini “Fotoula” Kanellopoulos (née Giannoukos)
January 20, 1939 – February 9, 2026

Fotini “Fotoula” Kanellopoulos (née Giannoukos), 87, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026. She was born on January 20, 1939, in the small village of Kokkoras, Gortynia, Arcadia, Greece, to Spyridon Giannoukos and Charalampia Giannoukos (née Konstantopoulos).

One of five siblings, Fotoula was a loving sister to Dimitra, Vasiliki, Ioannis, and Katerina. After losing her father at a young age, she helped her mother raise her siblings, taking on responsibility with strength and quiet determination. Years later, her devotion to family continued when she welcomed two of her siblings to Canada, opening her home and heart so they could live together under one roof.

She was the proud and devoted wife of her childhood love, Ilias “Louis” Kanellopoulos. They married on February 17, 1963, beginning a partnership rooted in devotion and deep affection. Louis had moved to Canada in 1961 and worked tirelessly for two years to bring his beloved Fotoula to join him in Toronto. She often said they were “lucky in love,” and to her, her husband was her whole world. Together, they built a beautiful life grounded in faith, resilience, and unwavering commitment to one another.

Soon after arriving in Canada, Fotoula embraced her new life with courage and determination. She and Louis welcomed three daughters: Angela (Stam) in 1965, Sally (John) in 1970, and Demi (Bill) in 1971. When she spoke of them, she lovingly referred to them as “Οι κούκλες μου” — my dolls. There is nothing in this world like a mother’s love, and her daughters felt that love deeply and unconditionally each and every day of her life.

Fotoula was the epitome of a matriarch. She managed a spotless and welcoming home while working grueling nights into the morning picking worms, all while raising her family with strength and grace. She was also a gifted seamstress, and her many beautiful needlepoints adorned the walls of her home — a home that was always open, always warm, and the setting of countless celebrations filled with laughter, food, and family.

She took immense pride in caring for her household. Family was everything to her. Completely untouched by the material temptations of western society, her greatest joy came from nurturing those she loved. She and Louis tended a large backyard garden filled with vegetables and flowers, and nothing made her happier than preparing a meal from scratch using ingredients she had grown herself, watching her family gather around the table she so lovingly set.

Her love extended beyond her family. Known for her tender heart, Fotoula would bring injured birds from her garden into her home, nursing them gently until they were strong enough to fly again — a quiet reflection of the compassion she carried within her.

She was a beloved grandmother to Sofia (Jesse), Fotoula (Roshan), Taso (Nicole), Louis (Ellie), and Fotoula, and a cherished great-grandmother to Spyri, Yianni, Leo, Daniel, Yianni, Ally, Anastasia, and Yianni. In her later years, though she slowed in body, her love only grew stronger. She adored her great-grandchildren beyond measure and was happiest when surrounded by their voices and laughter.

Fotoula loved love — and that is exactly what she gave to everyone in her life. Love and warmth, always. She was the heart and soul of her family, a steady presence of strength, grace, and devotion.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

KOUMBRIDIS Stefanos,

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stefanos Koumbridis, who passed away on February 8, 2026, just shy of his 81st birthday.

Stefanos leaves behind his beloved children, George and John, his daughters-in-law Katerina and Kristen, and his cherished grandchildren Athena, Théa, Maria, and Sandros, who brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his brother Tasos. Stefanos was the youngest of seven siblings.

Born on February 18, 1945, in Sevasti, Katerini, Greece, Stefanos met the love of his life, Maria, and they were married in 1968. That same year, they immigrated to Canada to build a future for their family.

With limited options but an unwavering work ethic, Stefanos entered the meat business and became a butcher. He spent most of his working life at St. Lawrence Market, working long, demanding days and taking great pride in his work. Though English was not his first language, Stefanos had a natural ability to connect with people. Known as Steve, Stefo, or affectionately “bebeleech,” he was loved for his warmth, humor, and kindness.

Like many newcomers, Stefanos and Maria were helped when they first arrived in Canada, and they never forgot that generosity. In turn, they opened their home and hearts to others, offering support, guidance, and opportunity to family and friends as they built new lives.

In 1972, Stefanos and Maria purchased their family home on Lamb Street, which became the heart of countless memories filled with love, laughter, and constant gatherings. No matter how tired he was, Stefanos never complained. Their home had an open-door policy, where family and friends were always welcome, and anyone who walked through the door was made to feel at home.

Stefanos was a devout Greek Orthodox Christian and a proud, active member of the Pontian community. He was a committed member of the Brotherhood Pontian Panagia Soumela, which was like a second home to him. He deeply valued his Pontian roots and culture and never missed an opportunity to attend events and dances, where his presence was always felt and appreciated.

Stefanos was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He was hardworking, social, and deeply family-oriented, a man who showed his love through consistency, generosity, and quiet sacrifice.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Kalo Paradiso, Stefanos.

(January 12, 1953 – February 8, 2026)

Paraskevi Gregoriou passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 8, 2026, in Milton, Ontario, Canada. She was born on January 12, 1953, in Temvria, Cyprus. She lived a life defined by love, faith, and devotion to her family. Her heart was full of compassion, and she had a rare gift of seeing the beauty in every person and the joy in life, no matter the challenges she faced. Her unwavering grace and quiet strength touched all who knew her.

Paraskevoulla was the beloved daughter of Charalambos Savva of Peyia, Cyprus, and Niki Savva of Temvria, Cyprus. Raised with strong family values and deep faith, she carried a lifelong spirit of kindness, warmth, and generosity that made everyone around her feel seen, loved, and comforted.

She was the devoted wife of Christakis Gregoriou, sharing 55 years of marriage that reflected a rare and enduring love—one rooted in respect, sacrifice, and an unbreakable bond. Together, they built a family grounded in faith, love, and togetherness.

She was a cherished mother to her three sons, Charlie, Nick, and Mario, and a loving mother-in-law to Fotini, Maria, and Phyllis, whom she embraced as her own, and a deeply devoted γιαγιά to Paris, Raphael, Christos, Chris, Raphaela, and Paraskevi. MAKRIS Maria,

In loving memory of Maria Makris (October 19, 1938 – February 5, 2026)

Maria Makris (née Kotsiras), aged 87, passed away on February 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving children, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Born in Pyrgos, Elias, Greece, Maria was the daughter of Tasia and Ioannis, and one of five siblings. From an early age, she learned the values of resilience, sacrifice, and devotion, qualities that defined her life. In 1968, Maria immigrated to Canada with courage, determination, and a strong work ethic.

It was in Canada that she met her beloved husband, Andreas Makris. Together for 37 years, they built a life rooted in hard work and a strong commitment to family. Maria devoted most of her life to being a homemaker, focusing on maintaining her home and raising her family. A talented baker and former pastry chef in Greece, her home was always rich with the aromas of τσουρέκι, κουραμπιέδες, κουλούρια, and μελομακάρονα. She later brought that same dedication and pride to her work at Goodas Foods.

In 2012, Maria was diagnosed with breast cancer, and with the same strength and determination that defined her life, she courageously fought and beat it.

Maria was a devoted mother to her children, Bill, Victoria, and Ioanna, and a proud Γιαγιά to Sophia, Samantha, Christina, Mia, and Andreas. In recent years, she was blessed to become a Προ-γιαγιά to Eden, Lilly Mae, and Niko. Her love extended beyond blood, embracing her step-grandson Christian and step-great-grandchildren Nora and Ezra.

Above all, Maria’s family was her greatest joy and life’s purpose. She will be remembered as a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, godmother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend.

Ο Θεός να ευλογεί και να αναπαύει την ψυχή σου. Σε αγαπάμε και μας λείπεις με όλη μας την καρδιά.
