The Mental Corner is officially 3 years old today!!!

What’s good everyone!!! Been a while yet again. As I wrap up my first semester of teacher’s college, and reflect on the last three years since this show was created, I can’t help but feel an immense amount of gratitude. For all of you, for all of the support the show has gotten, and for the kind of ecosystem this channel has created in the world of social media. What a ride this has been- thank you for joining me and tuning into the show, AND for continuing your amazing support even now when I’ve been MIA for so long. It’s amazing to look back and see where the show started compared to where it’s at now.

I’ve got so many things to tell you, and I still have so many goals for the show that I want to hit. The journey is far from done here so stay tuned!

The best part about podcasting & this platform is the networking that goes down and the people I’ve had the opportunity to meet. Reagan has been a long time virtual friend ever since we recorded our episode 2-something years ago, and it was super trippy but awesome to be able to meet her in person and watch her play! (Was also a great kickstart to my holiday now that my first semester of Teacher’s College has ended!)

If for nothing else, I’m beyond thankful for the reach that this platform has provided me so that I can meet all these amazing people!❤️

Despite loving where I’m at in life and the future that I have in the education field, my inactivity on the podcast since august has been a real damper on my mood. I love what we had created together with this platform, and the show wasn’t just a representation of hard work but also of community, support, and visual evidence that none of us are alone in our struggles.

Well, despite the inactivity for half the year, I wanted to share some of the highlights from spotify with you. While the podcast mostly does numbers on Apple Podcasts, you spotify listeners showed UP!! I can’t thank you all enough, and I really hope that soon I can be in a position (and a place with good enough wifi) to start delivering more episodes to all of you❤️

Also, a huge shoutout to Lee Skovsgaard from .enough.co for being my most streamed episode on Spotify this year (426% more streams than the average episode!!!!). What an unreal privilege to have been able to sit down and have that discussion with you my brother. Thank you🙏🏻

Hey everyone!! Thought I’d pop back on here to give you all a little update🙂

Had the chance to see the fam yesterday which was a nice little break in all the craziness! I’m on placement now and it’s so strange (in a good way!) to be back in a high school where everyone calls you “Mr. Potvin”😂 It’s going to take some getting used to for sure.

One of the biggest things I have to continuously remind myself is that I’m new to this whole thing. And with that, there’s going to be some growing pains & slip ups every now and then. I think subconsciously I had thought I was going to be perfect right from the beginning and completely in tune/relatable with the students (Turns out I’m just another old teacher to them😂😭). But there’s a lot of beauty in figuring yourself out & finding your footing when you’re in the place/profession you want to be in.

Hope you’re all doing amazing:) I miss this platform and the show like crazy… I’m really hoping I can start recording in the near future again.

Happy everyone!! I hope you've all been doing amazing the last few Wednesdays and have kept treating yourselves :)

Fall is easily my favourite season. The symbolism of change, the sweater weather, the beautiful colours. It's also the easiest time for me personally to meditate. There's something about observing all the change around me that really helps ground me when my own world feels like I don't have much control over it. Change is scary, it's uncomfortable, it hurts, it can be exciting and a lot of fun, but it's also a big component of life in general. Change is always happening, and when I incorporate that into my meditation, I feel a lot calmer about this new growing phase and chapter in my life.

How many of you continue to meditate and add to your meditation practice? I'd love to hear some of the things you use:) Have a great day everyone!!

THINGS I KEEP REMINDING MYSELF!!🙆🏼‍♂️

Happy Sunday friends!! It’s been a little while since I hopped on:)

Life has been crazy on my end! A lot of change happening and a lot of adjusting to this new phase of life and seemingly got abruptly introduced to me. That being said, I’m loving every single minute of it:) In these slides, I’ve given a couple things that I keep reminding myself to get me through the tough times or low points. While they’re all common sense, they’re things that, from personal experience, can be so easily forgotten or neglected.

Remember, you are loved, you are important, and you are wanted here. I can’t wait to catch up with all of you❤️

What’s UP everyone?? Long time no talk😅 I hope you’re all doing amazing❤️

A couple updates as life keeps going outside of the pod/this page:

📍ya boy is fully settled in and in the thick of classes. The workload can be overwhelming but the content is everything I would have hoped for. I love working with kids and learning how to create the best environment for their learning, so it doesn’t even feel like work

📍I’ve found a new Muay Thai gym down here and have fallen back in love with going for swims, and I’m currently lighter than I’ve been since the summer of 2020 (and feeling great!!!!)

📍I still have off-days, of course, and the change of schedule is still getting to me at times. But overall, I’m living out young Harry’s dream!

I miss the podcast so much but admittedly don’t know when it’ll be back. I want to have guests instead of just doing a ton of solo episodes but with my schedule and the state of my wifi, it’s almost impossible. We’ll figure something out though so stay tuned!

How’re you all doing?? I can’t wait to share some of the things I’ve learned with you guys! The amount of knowledge being passed down has just been incredible🤓

Just finished my last delivery for work! Now the move/life transition can really start! 👨‍🏫

I went to bed and woke up super anxious last night/today. It took a lot of inner dialogue but I eventually grounded and reminded myself that this was all part of the process- a big and sudden transition like this can have that impact on your mental state. But ultimately I think what I’m feeling is a mix of anxiety and excitement; I feel like I’ve finally found the right path for me, like this is where I’m supposed to be, and I can’t wait to keep going and see where this goes.

My face when I hear you say you don’t take mental health or seriously 🤨

What’s up everyone! Been super quiet lately on here. To be candid and transparent with all of you, I’m losing my interest for social media and this anxious need to keep posting/staying updated on everyone’s life. With the new chapter in my life starting next week (more details for you to come tomorrow), I’ve been having thoughts of taking another break from everything while I try to move forward- just to alleviate some of the stress. The one thing that keeps holding me back is this feeling that I’m letting this following down if I stop posting for a bit (what a ridiculous sentiment, yet my silly brain loves to convince me it’s legit).

I’ve also been working on myself and trying to kick my health into gear and, in doing so, realize that social media really does not help or benefit me. It’s merely a way to fill the silence or boredom that I experience sometimes which are empty voids that we all need and are essential for us. So, in reality, what i THINK is productivity and entertainment is really just a distraction from reality and what I truly need to do.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. Just wanted to let you know why I may not be on here as much (and why I may be “ignoring” my DMs- im really sorry lol). I hope you’re all having an awesome day! Be sure to treat yourselves❤️❤️

Happy my friends!! I hope you’re all having an awesome day❤️

The last week or so I’ve been definitely feeling a different kind of funk. There’s a huge life change coming up next month and so the last couple weeks have been full of stress and restlessness; which is all part of the process!

One thing that always helps me out in times like this is quality time with friends and family. Studies have shown that quality time with close ones not only reduces stress and anxiety, but promotes mindfulness and increases sense of belonging & purpose as well. It’s probably, in my opinion, the best medicine for a stressful/anxious funk.
