TONIGHT ⌚️

Eating disorders absolutely can and do affect men! And we know that because of the stigma and shame around men’s mental health, it can be all that much harder to access support for an eating disorder. According to a study published in the National Library of Medicine, men with eating disorders are more likely to be under-diagnosed, undertreated and misunderstood, even by professionals!

If you’ve been dismissed for your eating disorder, you might wanna check out our Men’s Eating Disorder group running every Tuesday at 8 PM ET run by our peer and moderator Mike Cornell. We also have a general group for Eating Disorders for everyone else at 6 PM ET

You can sign up for free with the link in our bio!

If you feel ready to take the next step in your recovery journey, peer support is for you 💙

We wish there was an instant cure for depression, and we know how frustrating it can be to be told to just “get over” an often debilitating mood disorder. But even if there isn’t a quick fix, there are some small habits that can help *manage* (not completely cure) symptoms of depression and make small tasks in your day a little easier.

👉Maintain a Consistent Routine and Sleep Schedule: Structure can be incredibly grounding. Regular routines help stabilize your mood and improve overall well-being. Consistent sleep helps your body and mind function better.

👉Attend Peer Support Sessions: Sharing your experiences with others who understand can be profoundly comforting. Peer support offers a safe space to connect, share, and feel less alone in your journey.

👉Find Ways to Be Physically Active - Especially Outside: Exercise boosts endorphins and spending time in nature can have a calming effect. Even a short walk can make a big difference in your mood.

💙 Feeling like you need more support? Join our Pay What You Can Peer Support sessions! Our “Depression, Boredom, and Loneliness” group meets virtually every Monday at 7:15 PM. It’s free to join, and we appreciate any donation you can make. Let’s support each other from wherever we are. 🌍

Earlier this month, we marked with a focus this year on the healing power of compassion. We're proud to support a number of organizations in the mental health space. Recently, we had the privilege to speak to Rural Ottawa South Support Services - ROSSS, a local organization who received grants through the Community Grants Program to deliver services to communities in need.

We also thank all of the donors and fundholders that support mental health initiatives through the OCF.

In the depths of my struggle, I searched for connection. While there’s no shortage of recovery accounts, finding one where I truly belonged was a challenge. As a man with an eating disorder, I’ve faced a unique kind of shame—often overlooked by society and professionals. Misdiagnosed with binge eating disorder, because “men couldn’t have anorexia.”

This group is the sanctuary I wished for. It’s a place where all who identify as male can find solace and support. Here, there’s no room for shame or stigma. We navigate this journey together, side by side. Join us every Tuesday at 8pm. Let’s share our stories and maybe even a few laughs.
