Welcome back to another feature Friday! We are pleased to introduce you to Tracey Frimpong.

Tracey Frimpong is a Registered Dietitian who lives and works in Toronto/Tkaronto, and is a first-generation Ghanaian-Canadian. Having grown up eating cultural foods and various flavours, food became a key part of her life.

She completed her education at Toronto Metropolitan University (formally Ryerson University) and completed her PMDip program with TMU and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Tracey currently works in an acute care hospital as a Float Dietitian. A very new position where she covers multiple units and works alongside many allied health members. Her days can vary from working in Med-Surgical ICU dealing with Total Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, or she can be working in Gastroenterology providing diet education to patients after surgery. Talk about never knowing what your day may look like.

Besides working in acute care, Tracey also does content creation focused on many topics, but more so focused on BIPOC in healthcare, cultural foods, and the health of Black individuals. You can check out her cool infographics, videos, and article features on IG orĀ www.thatblackRD.com

Fact: Less than 3% of dietitians are Black, however Black people continue to face greater health disparities than any other group

Stay tuned to watch our story today to see what Tracey has to share with us!

🚨Tuesday Tips🚨

Hi everyone! My name Is Lauren Yee and I am currently in my second semester of the MHSc. in the Nutrition Communication program at Toronto Metropolitan University. I graduated from the BASc. in the Applied Human Nutrition program at the University of Guelph last year.

In terms of my areas of interest in dietetics, I have quite a few, so it can be hard to narrow them down. I’m looking forward to the practicum experience I will be having in a few months, to help me further determine the areas I am interested in. However, to share a few, I am interested in women’s health, nutrition education (particularly for children and teens) and the aspect of content creation in dietetics.
In my free time, I love to relax by reading and watching TV/movies, spending time outdoors - whether it’s hiking, skiing or at my cottage in the summer, and spending time with friends and family.

I am happy to chat via my Instagram , where I share more about my experience as an RD2BE and the master’s application process. You can also email me at lauren.yee@torontomu.ca if you would like to chat further! I look forward to connecting with you and best of luck on your dietetic journey.

Stay tuned for our story today to see what advice Lauren has to share!

Welcome back to another Tuesday Tips! This week we will be featuring Rachel Levy.
ā€œHi! My name is Rachel Levy and I am currently in my first year of the MPH in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Toronto. Previously, I graduated from Queen’s University in 2019 with a BA in Health Studies, as well as from Toronto Metropolitan University with a BASc in Nutrition and Food in 2022. I also spent 2 and a half years working as a Digital Assistant to a prominent media dietitian. A few of my interests in the field of clinical nutrition include working with children in pediatric care, and with patients who have eating disorders. An additional interest of mine is the public health issue of Indigenous food insecurity in Northern Canada. I also love to cook, bake, travel, and practice CrossFit in my spare time. If I have one message to share with fellow or prospective nutrition students, it would be to encourage everyone not to give up if your dream is to become a Registered Dietitian! I had to take a slightly longer and more winding road to get to where I am today. However, if you're passionate about nutrition and dietetics, the journey is definitely going to be worth the outcome. My email isĀ 3rachelevy3@gmail.comĀ - please feel free to reach out if anyone would like to discuss masters/internship applications, or just to chat about dietetics :)ā€
Check out our story later today to hear what advice Rachel has to share!

Happy Thursday everyone! 😊

This week we wanted to give you a sustainable food tip- how to regrow your own celery 🌱

Save the bottom 2ā€ of the base of the bunch of celery and submerge in a shallow bowl with some water. Place this in a sunny spot and watch it grow. Once it has sprouted, plant the celery base in a pot with some soil. Water regularly and enjoy your home-grown celery!
