This foundational session is designed to introduce what psychological safety truly means and what it doesn’t while exploring its critical link to employee mental health and organizational culture. Participants will learn how Psychological Health and Safety (PHS) aims to protect and promote emotional wellbeing by creating environments where employees feel safe to speak up, engage, and grow without fear of retaliation or harm. Learners will discover PHS programming does not need to complex it only needs to be intentional. Dr. Howatt will outline core considerations for employers for creating a basic PHS program designed to protect and support employees. As well discuss why psychological safety programs require two-way accountability between employer and employees to be successful and key considerations when building a basic PHS program/workplace mental health strategy.

Join Dr. Arla Day as she discusses fixing the job, not the worker.

Despite decades of research that have established burnout as a work-related syndrome, most work interventions focus on creating resilience or managing symptoms at the individual level rather than addressing systemic organizational issues. That is, organizations create conditions that lead to burnout, but they then expect individuals to 'fix themselves' rather than improve the system that creates the problem in the first place. In fostering workplace wellbeing and 'Psychologically Healthy Workplaces', we draw on psychology to understand the root causes of burnout and wellness, and to integrate individual-, group-, leader-, and organizational-focused solutions for healthier workers.

Dr. Campbell is a dedicated psychiatrist with over 40 years of experience with eating disorder patients. He is the founder and president for the Eating Disorders Foundation of Canada. He is Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychiatry at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry for Western University, Consultant Psychiatrist at Fowler Kennedy Clinic, Fanshawe College, St. Joseph’s Family Medical Centre, and St. Joseph’s Health Care. Dr Campbell is also the visionary behind The Harbour pilot project. He is dedicated to providing more efficient care and early intervention to people with eating disorders. This project is the first of its kind in Canada.

Sara Bradbury: Registered nurse since 2013, specializing in mental health. Specialized further into eating disorders in 2015. Sara is interested in providing individualized care to the eating disorder population. Too much care in the healthcare system is generalized and this makes treatment minimally effective. Sara graduated from Western university in 2013 and began working at Grand River Hospital in their Specialized Mental Health Unit. Since then she has also worked at OTMH and Credit Valley Hospital.

Student success is closely connected to mental health and emotional well-being. Stress, anxiety, attention, and motivation all influence how students engage with learning and move through academic challenges.

School psychologists work within educational settings to assess learning differences, emotional concerns, and behavioural challenges that affect school functioning. They collaborate with families, educators, and students to support academic progress, mental health, and long-term success.

If mental health concerns are affecting school performance, askforhelptoday.ca can help you connect with a psychologist or psychological associate with experience supporting students.

Adolescence is a critical period for emotional and psychological development. During this stage, young people are shaping their sense of identity while their brains are still developing areas related to judgment, emotional regulation, and attention.

Social media is now a major part of this developmental context. Research shows it can influence mood, sleep, self-esteem, and concentration, especially when use is frequent or emotionally charged.

Psychologists and psychological associates who work with adolescents are trained to assess how digital environments interact with mental health and development. They help teens and families understand what is typical, what may be a concern, and how to respond in supportive and practical ways.

If social media use or emotional changes are raising concerns for a teen in your life, askforhelptoday.ca can help connect you with a psychologist who has experience working with adolescents.
