The CBC interviewed KITE Senior Scientist Dr. Nancy Salbach about the exercise technique TikTok has been calling Japanese Walking:

"You need to get your heart rate up; you need that three minutes of high intensity. That's what's pushing you over the edge to get greater benefits than just walking at a moderate pace."

Aging and healthcare start-ups follow a distinct launch trajectory that differs from that of other industries, and understanding this journey is crucial to developing solutions that scale. From Lab to Market is a dynamic panel discussion that will explore the lessons that can help those on the path to transforming cutting-edge science into products and services that reach their intended audiences.

Co-presented by the University Health Network’s KITE Creates and the Toronto Chapter of Aging 2.0, this event is designed for healthcare professionals, academics, investors, and entrepreneurs interested in launching or supporting evidence-based, mission-driven ventures. Prior to the panel event, a limited number of guests will also have the opportunity to tour UHN’s state-of-the-art KITE Research Labs to see first-hand how KITE is advancing health innovation.

Congratulations to Dr. Gabriela Melo Ghisi for her story, published in MSN and Medical Xpress, about how healthcare systems aren't doing enough for informal caregivers of people with heart disease.

She explained the results of her recent study, published in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. "We found caregivers trying to support patients, without being supported themselves," she writes.

"They told us, clearly and urgently: They need more information. They need emotional support. And they need systems of care that recognize them as more than 'extras' in a medical drama.

"Many were trying to manage medication schedules, monitor symptoms and translate clinical advice they barely understood. Others felt intense stress, isolation or fear about the future—but didn't know who to talk to. One caregiver told us, "I feel like I didn't have education on what really to expect for me. It was all about what the patient can expect."

Read the complete story:

If you've ever cared for someone through illness, you know that healing doesn't just happen in hospitals or clinics. It happens at home—around dinner tables, during medication routines, and in countless quiet moments where someone chooses to stay, care and keep going.
