Here are 4 tips from the Citrus Rehab team to avoid pain and injury during this gardening season🍃💐🌻🌷 1️⃣ Pace yourself! Gardening involves a lot of repetitive tasks, from raking to lifting to bending and kneeling. To avoid overdoing-it, be sure to change the task regularly. As a rule of thumb, change tasks every 20-30minutes, depending on the difficulty of the task.

2️⃣ Bend with your knees 🏋️‍♀️
Everybody knows this rule, but how often do we break it? While it's easier to bend at the waist to lift, it's much better for the back to keep it straight and bend with the knees. Even if you have sore knees, it's still much safer to lift this way to avoid serious back injury. Bend your knees as much as they'll comfortably tolerate and keep your back arched and strong at all times.

3️⃣ Wear good knee pads
Knee pain is really common when bending, lifting and especially kneeling. Knees pads can make a world of difference. Find a good industrial pair fit for use by plumbers and electricians. This will take the pressure off your knee caps and spare you that achy knee feeling and extra wear and tear.

4️⃣ Do some sloppy push-ups ☑️
Or if you know yoga, you might call it upward facing dog. After prolonged periods of bending forward and sitting, the ligaments and discs of the back get over-stretched in that forward direction. Doing some arching of the back in the reverse direction, while lying on your front, can help correct things. It's best to stop bending and do this preventatively, before you get a sore back.

Follow these tips to stay healthy in the garden this summer. 🙌 If you have any questions, our physiotherapists and chiropractors are always here to help keep you on the right track.

Support Me at Strides for Melanoma Awareness!

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I am walking at the 4th Annual Strides for Melanoma Walk for Awareness to raise funds for Melanoma Network of Canada in honour of my Zio Denis, "The Ace", who passed recently and suddenly of melanoma (skin cancer).

Being a chiropractor my job involves constant monitoring of skin lesions/moles/beauty marks on a daily basis. It is very important to monitor your skin to ensure that any marks on your body do not change in size, shape or colour. These could be the first sign of melanoma (skin cancer). There is a simple rule to help remember how to detect a suspicious lesion in your skin:

Asymmetry: One half of the mole does not match the other half.

Border irregularity: The edges of the mole are irregular, ragged, blurred, or notched.

Color: The color over the mole is not the same all over. There may be shades of tan, brown, or black.

Diameter: The mole is larger than about 1⁄4 inch – about the size of a pencil eraser

If you notice any of the above changes in any marks on your body, please seek the medical attention of a dermatologist or your family physician!!

Please sponsor us to help us reach our goal and to ultimately make a difference in the lives of those affected by melanoma. Thank you!
