Another successful presentation to over 100 seniors, focusing on ocular issues specific to their age group. This event provided a valuable opportunity for seniors to ask questions outside the exam room and learn from the inquiries of others.

It’s hard to put into words the profound sense of gratitude and joy we felt today as we continued our family tradition, which began in 2007, of celebrating Christmas with the 210 (current count) incredible children at the orphanage in Jaffna, Sri Lanka.

Each year, we are given the precious opportunity to bring a little light and happiness into their lives, and it never ceases to touch our hearts.

This year, our donations included table tennis equipment, undergarments, shoes, slippers, sandals, school bags, and lovely sarees and shirts for every one of the 210 children and the dedicated staff of about 40. And as if that wasn't special enough, we also shared three sumptuous meals together, complete with ice cream and cakes—a true festive feast!

These brave souls are not just children who have lost their parents due to the heart-wrenching scars of a 30-year war; they are survivors of abuse and hardship, each with their own painful story. To see them smile, to witness the joy that our small gifts can bring, is a powerful reminder of how fortunate we are to be part of their healing journey. It's a privilege to play even a small role in helping to create a safe and hopeful future for them.

As we wrapped up our day surrounded by laughter and joy, our hearts were filled with both sorrow for their past and hope for their future. Every smile we saw today was a victory against the shadows of their past, and we are endlessly grateful for the chance to share in their lives.

The Kenyan Senator, Crystal Asige, who is visually impaired due to Glaucoma, recently delivered an impactful and inspiring speech.

Glaucoma ranks as the second leading cause of blindness globally:

"Glaucoma is the general term for a group of similar diseases. In primary
open angle glaucoma, the channels that drain fluid within the eye become
blocked, causing the pressure within the eye to rise.

It causes gradual loss of vision. There are few symptoms so that people
may not notice for a long time that they are losing their sight.

In angle closure glaucoma, there is a similar build up of fluid within the
eye, but the onset is much more sudden.

Symptoms include headaches, blurred vision and pain in the eye.

People of Asian descent are much more likely to suffer from angle closure
glaucoma, while those of African or European origin are more likely to develop primary open angle glaucoma.

In Southern India, studies have shown a prevalence of glaucoma of 2.6% and 90% of these cases have never been diagnosed before"
