My Baba would have been 80 years old today.

This is my mum and Baba on their wedding day, these are there wedding outfits! Yes, it was 1976.

I met him only as a baby and don’t remember anything. Talked to him on the phone at 3&4 yrs old. Don’t remember that either.

That stings, even in its integration.

He died when I was 10, age 43, 37 years ago now. Getting older than him is a real trip!

You would have been only 80 now. Wow. I do wish you could have taught me Turkish, drumming, belly dancing, language and lore. That you could have healed just enough for us to connect and be and generate the moments that would have been.

I watched men in a rehab circle cry with regret that they lost, or never had their children. I heard you in them. I’ve had remorse as a parent, I know the agony and then transformation possible. I suppose we ran out of time.

Baba. I never called you that on earth I don’t think, but in cosmos you visit often, father, dad, even now you arrive over my left shoulder, grateful and somewhat embarrassed to be acknowledged in this online 2025 way on the day of your birth.

Baba, I didn’t need to know you to love you, but I did have to let go. Had to not hold on to shape, expectation, grief, knowing.

Acceptance of your death and life cracked me open 20 yrs ago and more recently forgiveness’s liberation is pure momentum.

Thank you for life Baba. Thank you even more for your spirits work. I am pretty sure you’ve helped to save my life a few times now.

Baba, alcohol consumed you, literally and figuratively, I know it wasn’t all you were, but whatever struggles you had, secrets in your insides, well they died with you.
I’ve been sober for almost 9 years now.

I bet we would have had a grand time with whisky! I imagine that’s what you drank, as it slides down my throat so easy.

Thank you for loving me from beyond the veil. May this message reach you, and offer you too, liberation.
