Massage@Transense:

We are all deserving
Your health and wellbeing matter. No matter who you are, where you come from or how you are living your life, you deserve access to quality healthcare. You deserve to be treated with caring and compassion. We are all unique
Although our bodies are fundamentally similar, our experiences of our bodies are highly individual. You are not the sum of your conditions and you are entitled to an individualized treatment plan, not a cookie-cutter approach. Your health is in your hands
Health isn’t something that someone else can bestow upon you; it is something that comes from within. You’re the only one who can heal yourself, though others can help you along the way. A registered massage therapists role is to facilitate your healing process. Learning together
Registered massage therapists have a great deal of knowledge about the human body and how it works. But you are the expert on your own body. Together we will learn how massage therapy can work best for you. Treatment without judgment
In the course of our work together your RMT will ask you questions about yourself, your health and your history. These questions are in order to learn how to treat you safely, effectively and in a manner that is most appropriate for you. There is no desire to judge you or your decisions. Full-body, whole-person approach
Although there may be times when it is practical to focus on a particular area of the body in order to achieve your health goals, no muscle or joint works in isolation. Similarly our health is composed of more than just our physical condition. A full-body approach to massage, and a whole-person approach to wellness. Healthy communities
As social beings, our health and happiness are inextricably linked with that of those around us. These things cannot come at the expense of others. Rather, in taking care of ourselves and valuing our own wellness, we make room for more wellness in the world.

It is with much sadness that I'm giving up my practice at Transense Healing Arts Holistic Centre after nearly 5 years. I love the space and I love the community, but now that I've relocated outside of the city my schedule and the laws of space won't allow it.

I will continue to be practicing several weekends a month at Novo Spa on Avenue Rd in Yorkville; you can book with me there by calling them directly at (416) 926-9303. You can also check out my new primary practice east of the city at Sutherland-Chan Belleville Massage Therapy Clinic.

Since neither of those options will be good ones for many clients, here are some other wonderful massage therapists in Toronto that I recommend!

At Transense:
Sophia Do (Sophiadormt.com) and Amir Salkic (transense.ca/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=289&Itemid=744). Both are very knowledgeable (Sophia also has a degree in kinesiology and Amir is a currently studying osteopathy) and provide effective treatments.

Close to Transense:
Cristina Corradini, at Bloor & Bathurst. (416-928-9650 x3). Cristina was my therapist while I was still chained to a desk (ie. before I became and RMT myself). She's a thorough and mindful practitioner.

At Sutherland-Chan near Yonge & Eglinton (416-484-6688):
Dagny Jackman, RMT, Joana Martins RMT and Leeanne Koczka. I've had treatments from all of these therapists and recommend them highly.

In addition, I've heard great things about Erin Ladd, RMT Bodies in Transition: Access to Care, Jamie Smiliovitis-Boer, R.M.T and Krista Wiggins, RMT!

Thank you to everyone who's supported my practice at Transense. It's been a joy working with you.

On June 20th I'll be participating in Cycle for Sight 2015 – a fundraiser in support of the Foundation Fighting Blindness Canada – because I want there to be a cure for retinal eye diseases in my lifetime. As part of my fundraising efforts, I'll be donating 100% of my treatment fees at Massage@Transense between Monday, June 15th and Friday, June 19th. Email juliagarrormt@gmail.com to book your appointment!

If you're more of a Friends For Life Bike Rally supporter, I'd be equally pleased to put the proceeds from your treatment towards Laura Krahn's efforts in support of the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation.

Just want to make a donation? Click the link below for my Cycle for Sight page or check out Laura's page at www.tinyurl.com/laurabikes!

Work a desk job? Think about taking time to get up and stretch your legs throughout the day!

(Thanks to Kristie Lille Smith for drawing this infographic to my attention!)

We know sitting too much is bad, and most of us intuitively feel a little guilty after a long TV binge. But what exactly goes wrong in our bodies when we park ourselves for nearly eight hours per day, the average for a U.S. adult? Many things, say four experts, who detailed a chain of problems from…
